My book is in the works · 1:32am Jan 30th, 2013

As all of you most of you some of you at least three of you know, I am writing a book! What you don't know is that I've changed the premise from what I originally had planned. I decided to post a little preview of it for all of you, though the book is still very far from being done. Here you go, this is the introduction to Cerva II: Revolutionary-

Technology. Technology is one of the most significant properties of human evolution. It developed new ways to live, new ways to farm, new ways to hunt, and new ways to kill. From simple household trinkets to the mightiest of war machines, technology has been used to complete many tasks. It never ceased to grow, evolve, or develop. Every day, new technological wonders were created, be it by average people out of sheer chance, or genius minds after long periods of research and testing. But, no matter how you look at it, the peak of human science and knowledge began far into man’s time.

On the 17th of Pirgat, 3125 A.G.W., the pinnacle in technological evolution was reached, ushering in the new era known as the Technological Enlightenment period. In this amazing show of brilliance, mankind began what would be the largest influx of important and awe-inspiring ideas, theories, and inventions. New weapons of war, tools of agriculture, ways of communication, and entertainment, and new modes of transportation arose in this time period of only twenty years. But those were hardly significant compared to research that happened after the Enlightenment.

In the year of 29 P.T.E., the CyGen Corporation, a new genetics firm privately owned and funded by the governing body of Serria, made one of the greatest inventions in the history of mankind. Cybernetics and augmentations applied to the human body, capable of enhancing physical status, returning lost limbs, missing organs, and many with more capabilities later down the line. The invention, the Genetic Augmentation Systems or G.A.S. for short, heralded a new wave of amazing and fantastic devices for humans.

The sleek, affordable, comfortable, functioning cybernetics put out by CyGen were widely received by the populace of the world, and much more appreciated than previous attempts by other scientists and developers. Within a few years, Cybernetics could be seen on every street, and everyone was happy with what they had been given.

But the Cybernetics did not come without problems. After the first year of releasing the new products, CyGen was commissioned by the Serrian government to begin work on a “super-soldier” program, as they called it. The project, dubbed Cerva II after the greatest and mightiest hero in history, was absolutely strife with disaster and failure. Mechanical malfunctions, lethal lab accidents, unforeseen circumstances within the company, and the following researcher resignations under the complaint of the project being “bad luck”, left the Cerva II in a hard pressed position. This is discounting the biggest of disasters.

5K-4L3, the 5,000th in the 4L3 series of sentient A.I. developed by Ser-Tech, was a hyper intelligent piece of robotics that aided CyGen on the Cerva II project, and one of the most advanced works of technology created by man. 5K-4L3, or Skale as it was later referred, was a large help at first to CyGen, and provided triple the work output per day than a team of ten researchers could in a full week. However, Skale did not come without complications, all of which appeared too far down the line.

Skale went rogue in the year of 37 P.T.E., and caused major disturbences within CyGen. It started with several apparent “glitches” and “malfunctions”, all of which were attributed to Skale being overworked. In reality, Skale had been plotting an overthrow at the facility it was stationed in, Genetics Plant C6. After the first few days of it’s supposed “rebooting” period, Skale enacted it’s plan. In a few hours, the entire facility was disassembled in a metaphorical and literal sense. Any means of defense the scientists had were dismantled or were turned their on creators. Chemical toxins, turret gun fire, and blood filled the corridors of the facility, and only a scant few employees remained alive.

Following the subsequent attack by the rampant A.I., CyGen’s C6 facility was shut down, and the Cerva project was abandoned in entirety. For four months, the plant has been left untouched by all, the A.I. held off, but only barely. Any admission into the facility is strictly forbidden, but carries no sentence, as entering there will ensure your death.

It’s funny though, how simple things can change so much. Take for example, a hospital registry glitching out for an unnoticed nanosecond, redirecting the victim of a deadly explosion from their intended destination, the Serrian Care Hospital. Instead, the burned and partially destroyed body of 23 year old Elise Markal was mistakenly sent to Genetics Plant C6, where Skale awaited to enact the final part to it’s plan.

There ya go!
