This artist, he draws anthros exactly how I imagined them in Harmony's Wrath/Eris's Riddle - don't meant to spam huge images but like... whoa.

That is indeed fantastic artwork! I love those outfits in the first two pictures.

That does remind me of something, though... In the Harmony's Wrath setting I've wondered how all the ponies suddenly and simultaneously developed a nudity taboo when they were transformed. The only thing I can figure is that with quadrupedal ponies, at least you don't see their faces and their naughty bits at the same time. I mean, then they transform and suddenly they can't talk face-to-face without visible distractions. If that makes any sense. :facehoof:

On the whole, I have rather mixed feelings about anthropomorphized/humanoid ponies. They certainly seem more plausible in terms of creating and maintaining a civilization. Yet, on the other hoof... The cuteness and sheer funkiness of our quadrupedal ponies is part of their appeal, and figuring out how they live without hands is an interesting intellectual exercise too.

23685 The nudity thing, well, yeah, I'm not gonna lie, that one is a little out of the blue. It's kind of justified though - in the real world, horses are built for running, so there's not much benefit to having big flashy "come mate with me" signals and obvious genitals and secondary sexual signals like you do in primates (note the way many female apes and monkeys have enlarged buttocks as a fertility indicator. In humans, this role is played by the breasts, since on two legs, the buttocks are taken out of the eye line). As such, on a pony, you really have to try to get a look at the private parts, even standing under a pegasus in flight, so it makes sense that a pony society with human-like culture wouldn't have a dire need for clothes.

However, anthropomorphic ponies are clearly not built this way. Assuming they came to be in through evolution (as opposed to creation, in which case all bets are off), then their mating cues are likely to be closer to humans, so obvious sexual advertisements in the eye line like enlarged female breasts are a bit more likely to happen. It's also worth noting that for males, standing on two legs shows off a lot more than standing on four. Hence why Soarin was blundering around with a pillow over his crotch. The bipedal form, at least the human version, is like a billboard for mating. On top of this, and I suppose this is as much retroactive as anything else, the ones most embarrassed by the lack of clothes were the mane six (+ Trixie), the only characters who had any memory from before the curse - they would have noticed pretty quickly (such as Rainbow Dash's wingboner as soon as she saw Twilight), while the rest of them would have taken a little while to catch on (like the royal guards running through the palace with ill-fitting armour, and Soarin perfectly happy to fly out naked).

As for anthro ponies in general... yeah that's pretty much how I see it. They're far more practical, but not nearly as cute. Great device for telling a story, kinda awkward to draw unless you really know what you're doing (there's an awful lot of really bad anthro pony art out there).
