......I-Is it on? It is? Oh, um...alright...*ahem*... · 8:47pm Nov 6th, 2011
Hello, all. As you may have surmised, I am Arcanum Symphonis. Don't ask. It's been that for a while now, and I've just gotten used to it. If you can't be bothered, just "Arc" will do or something. Also, don't be worried if you read it first time as "Archaic Syphilis"; that's already been done many times.
I've only just entered the fic-writing world. I've never written a story before - unless you count what I had to write in my English classes, but those were utterly atrocious, even for my age back then; I mean, come on: for one assignment back in Year 8 (making me 12 at the time), I was meant to write a horror story, and I opt to make it about a snowman whose eyes are pecked out by birds and melts away slowly due to a dog's urination. If that isn't bad, I don't know what is.
Anyway, the fact is that I've never been serious about writing a story before. MLP helped - a lot - and had an idea going in my head. I started writing out a few lines, and gave it to someone I've known for a while to proofread. She said it was pretty good so far, and I decided to do a whole chapter. I just thought "hey, what's the worst that could happen? Everyone's been mocked on the internet once at least. What's once more?"
That's why I was surprised to see, not only my first chapter for my first story, but also the one-shot (at least, planned-to-be- one-shot) that I wrote in a complete act of randomness being received so well. They don't have many views, but from the ratings and comments, they're certainly not bad, and I'm glad of that. I think that's given me the confidence to start writing a bit more; I have some more ideas on the back-burner for now, but I want to finish what I've started first.
Unfortunately, that may take some time. I have a job - 8-4:30 Mon-Wed, 8:30-3:30 Thu and 8:45-3:30 Fri (and that's not even considering the copious amount of overtime I generally have to put in each month) - and I have other things to do (Disgaea 4 was only just released over here, so I'll be playing that a bit). So I ask, while things may seem to go slow, there are more than enough good reasons for why, and I will get it done eventually.
Chapter 2 of A Night to Remember is well under way, and I'm hoping to have that finished sometime this coming week, considering the length of the previous chapter. Also, I have an idea for a short, sweet comedy involving the two Princesses - that should take up three of four chapters, all much shorter than the aforementioned story's chapters. Another idea I have is for a fairly random comedy in Japanese kids' show style: something takes Equestria by storm, grand tournaments are held and everything is far more epic and flamboyant than it's generally supposed to be (like shows about children's card games). I hope to lightly mock that style a little with that story, but that'll probably come last. And as for the one-shot I wrote...well, it may say "Completed", and for now it will stay that way. However, I may have an idea or two as to how to make it into a fully-fledged tale, most likely more serious - and possibly "Dark" - compared to everything else so far.
And so, that should be all for now. I've introduced myself, explained how I got into fic-writing, explained why I'll be a slow updater and laid out my plans for the near-future. Oh, one more thing: thanks. For being as welcoming as you have been. I already feel part of the community, and I hope to contribute more.
