    Heads up + discussion

Yeeeeeah, soooooooooooo... I'm kinda slow. I'll admit it's been a while since the last chapter of Ponyville Paintball. For anyone wondering, I'm still working on it, no question about that... It's just that a lot of IRL stuff popped up at once (I'm going to star in a short movie :raritystarry:) and I've had little time to write these days. But I'm working on it. Right now Chapter 11 is a little

Thoughts about the newest episode? · 4:36pm Jan 20th, 2013

For those of you who have read my bio, you probably already know that Discord is my favorite character on the show. You can probably also tell that I like him since I wrote a multi chapter fic on hiatus about him, a 9000 word one shot fic also about him, and since he's going to play a big part in ponyville paintball.

Why do I love Discord so much? Because I think he's such a fantastic source of inspiration for fiction writing. What I love most about pony fiction is when writers take something from the show and give it a much more complex, comprehensive and adult approach. I think Discord gives writers the perfect opportunity to do this: To turn a goofy ne'er-do-well into a deep character is something I strive to do.

This is how I see Discord: He's a draconequus, the only or one of the very last of his kind, if not the only draconequus ever. He is gifted with extraordinary magic, and is all around a powerful and intelligent being. He's just a little cheeky, that's all. But because of his love for harmless fun and tricks, all people do is stick to appearences, and see a devil in him. As soon as he's free, and wants to live life the way he want it like every pony else gets to live theirs, someone feels the need to lock him up in stone or to make an outcast of him somehow. Even the highest authorities in the world of ponies can't go beyond this shallow view of him. When everyone wants to cast you out and turn you into an evil you are not... What can you do against it? What can you do to defend yourself besides become that evil and stand up to the oppressors by doing all in your power to fill their life with chaos and disorder, the way they do yours?

That's what Discord is to me: he's like the Joker in Batman. People who won't accept you aren't worth of your respect. Why try harder to gain their acceptance? When people will always be nice to each other and ugly with you, you just have to be ugly back. Because otherwise they'll only be reject you more vehemently. Such is the way of life for Discord: You get tough and you fight back the oppression and make them pay, or you'll just get turned to stone.

But all he ever wanted was to be accepted the way he is. Where's the fun in that?

That's what Discord is. A physical and mental reflection of the uglyness people show him.

And that's just a bottomless gold mine for fiction writing, in my opinion.

So, when I see something like this:

I can only say: "No, good sir, you are not the only one. I don't like the way the writers changed him either."

To put it simply, because this is getting kinda long, in light of who, what, and how Discord is, I think it was so weird that he would just suddenly say "You think I'll change just because you say you're my friend?" and then be like "... Oh yeah. Well I'll guess I'll just suddenly stop being Discord, just like that."

What are your thoughts about this? Do you guys have any other depth of character models for Discord?

TL;DR? Basically I thought that the newest episode was your standard FiM awesomness, but the ending was disappointing, and especially inconvenient to us fiction writers. If interested, see above.

Doesnt TL;DR go at the top?

2102146 Meh, who cares. In any case this blog post isn't exactly relevant anymore because the whole season picked up quite nicely after that episode, and the finale was awesome :raritywink: What did you think about the whole thing?

2102146 Wait hold on, I thought this was another blog post of mine xD But still, I also got used to the new Discord. Still gonna keep writing him the way I do in this post though
