finally were back for a new episode
once again ive waited rather late to do my little reviewette, but i dont have alot to say about this one, but i will say that its one of my favourites of the season.
i have long awaited the return of discord and it was truly glorious, i think he has only improved in character.
with discord, there is ofcourse plenty of funny moments throughout the episode.
beaverton beaverteeth is best beaver apropos. and the scene of discord 'rolling' his eyes was a fave of mine. and his reaction to the stare was really nice too.
rarity said 'wide wide world of equestria' a personal fave of mine.
the turning of fluttershys house was a nice gag. and the twist of him eating the paper was wonderful. plus multiple lovely fourth wall breaks.
i rather liked the dinner party scene. something so funny about rarity yelling not the dress. the charades was cute. and that gravy boat...
and i thought how they treated celestia at the start was nice. even though they are close to her theyve always treated her very conservatively, but now you can see them reacting more openly about their feelings about her decision. i think this shows nice growth.
so, the writing in this episode i think was wonderful. at first i felt the ending was kind of rushed, but i now disagree. i think rather its that i just greatly wanted to see it go on further, which would have been great for it, but i think they fit it nicely in length given. i would have really loved it to be a two parter though.
i have grown to love fluttershy and discords relationship unexpectedly alot, i desperately want to see more of it. im certain theyll have more discord in future episodes, but i would so adore if they had an episode developing their friendship, or developing discord using his relationship with her, so much so that i would give up anything to see this happen. it has certainly inspired me to want to write about them.
so, discord was written quite wonderfully, with the contour of his motivations and emotions throughout. at first he sees her trust as an act to reform him and easily goes on with his plan to use it against her, then when she first mentions their friendship he has a quick shock reaction at the idea but still plays it off to continues his plan. later when he finally has the chance and angers fluttershy, you can see it all sink in very quickly and realise how he feels about her compassion and trust. that pivoting line i think is what meghan was talking about, and rightly so, possibly my fave line of the show.
also, the writing for fluttershy was spot on, and really what made the episode for me and why id call it my favourite. as many episodes as shes had to develope analogues to her element, this truly expressed her genuine element. she really wanted to give him a second chance and didnt just turn around cause he wasnt quick to help, she really made a great point at the dinner party, she sees that he isnt perfect but she wont give up, thats exactly what shes trying to help. and all throughout the episode they show her being honestly compassionate, though not being overly passive as you see her being assertive and even angry at times. and too often kindness gets paired with naivety, though she also shows that this isnt the case and that she truly wishes to help him. she holds true to her intentions to the end until finally discord realises just that, and decides that with his chaotic nature hes never had such genuine trust from another toward him, and that the genuity of her compassion and want to befriend him means alot to him. for the first time he has a chance for honest friendship. its almost an analogue to the lesson of his other episode, except he is learning it himself.
that however isnt the only lesson, which i see multiple of, such as giving second chances, trusting your friends judgement, the significance of sincerity, and others still that im not thinking of now.
i honestly dont know how this could have been better, except of course it being longer. or perhaps having a song. quite possibly my favourite of the season.
there were many more smaller things i could mention, but ive rambled on quite enough for now. i just cant wait to see more discord.

Sounds like you need to get writing on it then! That was one of the things I liked; the relationship between Fluttershy and Discord. That was interesting to watch.
