Longma, a story waiting to happen. · 3:27am Jan 18th, 2013
See any differences? Yes? Well, I'm choosing to ignore them! Princess Luna's bat-like pegasi have been a paradox for me since I first saw them, and when I was making 'The New Brotherhood of Darkness' I had the idea that Celestia had used the Elements of Harmony for military reasons before, the image of those Chinese terracotta soldiers came to mind, so I looked up a chinese breed of horse, planning to make a terrible pun. But I found the strange image above, and the wikipedia article attached, and found a burst of creativity. In my story I created a country called 'Han Longma' based off of 'Han China' and the creature above, a longma, or 'dragon horse'. Then, I remembered the bat ponies, and how they had several dragon-like characteristics, they seemed to have reptillian frills instead of a mane or tails, and bat, or dragon, wings, not to mention the dragon eyes. So I came up with; what if Luna's guards are specially hired or bred 'dragon ponies', and might be the ancestors of the Han Longma, this shall be expanded upon in at least one of my current stories, or I might make a story for them alone... if so... when do we get a character tab for the solar and lunar guards?! I know several authors who would like a tab like that for their stories about Equestrian soldiers.
Now look at me go check and find out there already is a tab.
Well whadduya know? There isn't one. Yet there is for a random pony I've never heard of named Raindrops. Huh.
I've checked, and there is fan work for mlp-styled longma, but I'm apparently the only one to make the connection to Luna's guard.
Oh yes, please feel welcome to introduce the Longma into your stories... but always remember who you heard it from first....
