I assume you all know what episode premiers this Saturday. However, if you don't...
"Keep Calm and Flutter On"
Princess Celestia tasks the ponies with reforming Discord, a mischievous spirit of disharmony, but Fluttershy is the only one who is willing to give him a chance.
I'm torn. Recently (before I knew about this episode), I got borderline obsessed with Discord (mostly due to the song by the same name). Great timing, right? I am psyched to see my favorite villain again! But still...
The episode summary states that Celestia wants to "reform" Discord. Now, one of the reasons why I love him so much is that he is evil. Always has been, always will be. Sure, he isn't EVIL evil, like Chrysalis or Sombra for example. Some might even argue that he just wants to mess with the fabric of reality, like the ultimate troll. Conversely, one could say that brainwashing ponies, breaking spirits, and taking delight in the misery of others IS just that evil. Personally, I'm somewhere in between, just as I believe he is. Of course, my opinion is mainly based on the fanfic Chaos and Laughter by Charcoal Quill, so I'm not sure how well it sits with the rest of you (although, if you're interested in it and get a chance, you should definitely read it. Seriously, I downloaded it onto my iBooks so I could read it anytime I want).
Somehow, that brings me to my next point. Fluttershy is the one to give him a chance. Fluttershy. Fluttershy, who, if I remember correctly, furiously referred to Discord as a "big... Dumb... MEANIE!!!!!!!!!!!!" Yes, she is the Element of Kindness. Yes, she was the most resistant to Discord's corruption (though I strongly suspect that had to do with the lack of enough self esteem to be hurt by his suggestions that her friends thought she was weak and helpless). But I still don't buy it. If anything, I thought it should have been Pinkie Pie. Pinkie was the least perturbed by the spreading Chaos (though I admit she probably would've been willing to ignore any disaster if enough chocolate came as a result of it). She was also the least resentful of what Discord did to her ("Hee hee hee! I was GREY! Ha ha ha!") not to mention that Pinkie Pie is pretty much chaotic herself, what with all her randomness and antics and fourth wall and laws of Physics breaking. Discord did say she was his favorite, after all. Then again, this is all coming from my love of the headcannon in Chaos and Laughter, but I digress.
Don't get me wrong. I love Fluttershy, and I can't wait for the new episode!

Anyway, I just had to get that out of my system. I'll leave you alone now and get back to writing.

I, for one, am just glad that our supreme overlord is returning. Looking forward to it so much.
I view Discord as a dark troll. Like you said, he just screws with both reality and our minds. In his shoe- er, lizard foot and mule foot, I would basically do the same. I mean, who could resist the randomness of all? And being the spirit of chaos, reality bends at your will. Imagine: hundreds of cats bearing thumbs demolishing a mansion built of rice. And even that would get boring after a while, so why not try something harder? Like, oh maybe ponies' spirits? Think about it, you couldn't resist the challenge in a draconequus' mindset.

What spoiler? Where? Hell, I didn't know about this. But it's not like I care if it's spoiled. We're just watching a freakin' TV show about pastel-coloured equines. lol. Smile.png
In all seriousness, however, and to Amethyst, I don't know if this new season's really been all I would've liked. I mean, the first season was good, what with the extremely minimalist goal for the series. idk. Sometimes, it just seems that things degrade as they go on. Entropy always wins, I guess. Unless it's Dr. Who, because entropy is damn hilarious in that case. Or Sherlock. Because no-one messes with Sherlock.
721304 I don't mind spoilers either, I just know a lot of people who do. As a general rule, it's usually a good idea to tag those in some way. No biggie, either way.
As for me, my new favorite episode has changed with every season, so they're definitely still improving for me, But I do think this next episode is really going to determine some things...
