Oh my glog is the editing of the first chapter taking a long time. The first chapter started out as 15 pages and I may end up doubling that before I'm done. And all that writing takes time.
I guess the good news for the future is that this past week hasn't been too good for editing, but this next week is looking good.
I am thinking, though, that I might need to find some additional time for editing. I'm lucky if I average a page per day.
So in the interest of making chapter one not be absurdly long and getting the next part of the story available soon, I was considering splitting the chapter into two or more chapters. The real problem is this: Where do I split it? I considered splitting it when I first wrote it, but there are only a few places that could possibly work, they're near the beginning or the end, and I'd need to write around the chapter splits rather than let them happen naturally.
So, in the end, it comes down to this: Quality work takes time. And I want this to be quality work. I'm only near the beginning of the first chapter, which I think required a lot more rewriting than later parts will. Furthermore, there are significant amounts that I will be shortening or cutting because they just don't need to be there.
It's still going to be longer than it was originally (and it was already pretty friggin' long), but it won't be absurdly long and it will hopefully be ready to go within the next week and a half to two weeks. I seriously doubt it will be done by my next status update.
