Reflections on a 2 year hiatus

Hello folks! I woke up feeling nostalgic today, and decided to check FimFiction after quitting it cold turkey 2 years ago. It surprises me that the community still keeps going on strong, and it made me reflect on this long chapter of my life, which closed abruptly (and maybe rashly) 2 years ago. And honestly, I regret just dropping off the face of the earth, and never getting a real sense of

Bronycon: A Tragicomedy in 5 acts — The Land

Conventions of all kinds are interesting places to be, but there was something special in the air for this Bronycon. It could be due to the larger crowds than those in your typical Pony Con, or the reduced space which brought the attendees together, maybe even how much of other fandoms seem to seep into pony nowadays[1]. But mostly I am pinning that to the sense of finality given to the whole

Bronycon: A Tragicomedy in 5 Acts — Introduction

Lo! Behold the Bronycon 2019, most majestic of all Pony conventions, last of its kind and most crowded of its name. Witness as it fights for space with the Rubik’s Cube convention [1]. Be amazed at the crowds of people attending, and all the panels they didn’t get to attend. And don’t mourn for it being gone, but celebrate the fact it happened at all.

    Life updates, plus Bronycon!

Man, it is shocking how long it has been since I posted anything in this account. My last post was in April 2016, and it is hard to believe that this much time has passed. It also makes a lot of sense, since May 2016 marked the beginning of 3 very interesting years in my life.

Daring Do is totally George Lucas, guys!

Chris posited on his blog an interesting bit of headcanon about Stranger Than Fanfiction: That the first three Daring Do books felt different because they were ghostwritten by someone that was brought on to smarten up the plot – who should be Twilight's Mom, in order to revive an old bit of

Hey, look, a blog post! Or, New Year Resolutions from a lazy person. · 6:30am Jan 2nd, 2013

Hello! If you are watching me (most likely by accident, but stranger things have happened), I am alive and looking to do more fanfiction.

As my 2013 resolution I decided to go commit myself to writing more. Laziness is the main reason I don't do it nearly as much, but there is just so much entertainment you can consume before the urge to produce some of your own overwhelms that. I have been working on and off on a bunch of stuff for the past months without any focus, and I figured that putting goals into paper (or blog post, as it is) with some abstract deadlines would be effective as a motivator.

First thing is that I took down "Carry on". A lot of stuff on that story had bothered me for a while, specially how telly certain parts are, and if I want to take this whole writing thing seriously, I guess that a large scale revision would be the priority. The gist of it will be kept intact, since I really like the premise and it comes from a very sincere place, but I will rewrite and add scenes to improve the flow, correct some of the terrible errors all around (Like writing Applejack as Apple Jack), and lots of other bells and whistles. While I haven't published anything in six months, I have been studying about writing, and I am certain I can do a much better job with it now. This should be up around the end of the week barring some kind of natural disaster.

I will also do a revision on Derpy Files this month. I am quite content with how that one turned up, but in the end it is just a silly one shot. I want to do a follow-up involving things like alt-med, pseudoscience and so-on, but it will require some inspiration to come to me, so don't hold your breath.

Next is a larger project involving Twilight Sparkle making a deal with Mephistopheles. It is a tragedy in 5 acts told in the first person by Twilight, with some interesting and (hopefully) original twists. It will be tragic, but more in a moral dilemmas and existential dread than angst and gore, and it should stay pretty much PG. The first chapter is 100% done, the next two just need a revision and some new scenes, and the rest of the story is already plotted out. However, there are still some pending issues.

First, I need to decide on a cover picture. Sadly, I couldn't draw to save my life, and I can't seem to find something existing that fits, but I feel strongly about this one so I might commission something. I also need a title. I thought about "Pact", but that feels too generic, or "A friend from the dark", but that feels too stupid. Hopefully something will come to me while writing the later chapters. However, the main issue is that I want to keep the later parts of the story Season 3 accurate, so I am gonna wait for the season finale to air to see if I will need to change anything. If everything goes well, I will probably publish the first chapter on the Sunday after the season finale, or soon after depending on the what needs to be revised, and then keep to a two chapters every week or a chapter every 5 days release schedule. Anyway, it is looking good so far and I am anxious to release it.

Next is "Tales of a Friendship Foretold", a one-shot based on "Chronicles of a Death Foretold" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It is a story about Trixie making friends and breaking free from the chains of her past, mimicking Marquez style and the way that story is built, but adapted to follow the MLP themes and overall feel. By all logic it should had been published already, since I started writing it on July, but procrastination is my middle name. I just need to finish a couple of scenes and do a few revisions, and I am aiming to release it in two or three weeks. So far it is looking like a fun read, and I really want to pay homage to one of my favourite authors. Seriously, go read his stuff, preferably in the original if you can read Spanish, but a translation would be great too. Chronicles is shorter than most of the pony writings here and really unique, and "100 years of solitude" is one of those books that will stay with you forever

I also have an Applejack fic in the works. It is a tragedy in 3 acts called "A Past with no Future", involving time travel, Applejack parents, and some philosophically messed up stuff (no gore, don't worry). So far I have a scene-by-scene description of all the four chapters, and the Epilogue is just missing one scene and some editing. If I can fully impart my vision it will be a very sad story with an interesting take on certain themes, but in order for it to work there is plenty left to be done. I am mostly writing it whenever inspiration impacts me, and when I need to take a break from "Pact", but after that is done this will be my main focus. I wand to publish the first chapter in February, and the rest irregularly within the next two or three months, but since it has just left the conceptual stage and I need to be careful in its construction, things might change.

This is it so far. If I can work seriously on those four things and publish them I will seriously consider this year a success for my writing, but there are also a lot of other ideas I have that I might or might not do after. You see, I have the problem of having way too many ideas and my attention kinda jumps between them. I have concepts on various phase of execution lying in my computer that I may (or may not) eventually get to. I will post another blog with these later, since this one has run so long, but check that out if you need some inspiration (feel free to use them!) or wanna laugh at their inadequacy.

So, here it is. It is said that putting these things to paper and in public is a good way to commit to doing stuff, and I really hope this holds water. Cheers to all, happy new year, and lets hope for a new year resolution of 2560x1440.
