An small article of analyzing Batman (1989) · 2:23am May 22nd

Elloo, I decided to share some old homework from College class, in this case from one of them, its an Graphic Novels analyze class, where we watch a movie and then not only analyze it, tho also putting our thoughts as well.

In this case, plus seeing a bit of an argument about Joker in another form, here's my notes on the Batman 1989 film:

In the years of comic book history, many superheroes and villains get their live action or animated debut in any media. One of the more popular superhero films that’s inspired by the comics is Batman. Batman first appeared in May 1939, in Detective Comics #27, and since then made it into many films and shows. Many of us have grown up with different kinds of Batman actors, in this case for me it's the Ben Affleck Batman due to watching some of the movies he’s appeared in. Then there's others that have seen the Christian Bale Batman movies, which I did watch as well and I like his movies. Plus there's the recent Batman actor, Robert Pattinson, whose movie was really good. Then there's the early Batman actors, such as Adam West, or George Clooney. Though, back in the day, some of the Batman movies and tv shows used to have a campy Batman-like character. That all changed when Tim Burton released a film in 1989, starting with Micheal Keaton as the lead role of Batman and Jack  Nicholson as Joker, Tim Burton’s Batman changed the way of how the media comic book character portray from being campy to serious.

When Tim Burton was making the Batman movie, and casted Micheal Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman, it was controversial since he is usually a comedian actor, and wasn't taken seriously. Though when Jack Nicholson was casted as the Joker, everybody wanted to see the movie due to him being in it. The film was very successful, and soon about three sequels were made. The film starts off with a gang of robbers stealing money from a small family, which I thought was the Wayne family. Then minutes later, Batman comes by and beats up the robbers, and runs away quickly before being spotted by the police. Batman’s costume is made by foam latex pieces over a neoprene bodysuit, and heavy armor placed on the body. Throughout the film, Micheal Keaton’s Batman cannot move his neck, so he has to move his entire back backwards or forward a bit. It was a bit comical, though it still works. There was also Jack Nicholson playing as Joker, in which I find it interesting that they give that version of the Joker a backstory of how he came to be, but in comic lore, the Joker’s identity wasn't revealed at all. Nicholson’s Joker is also intimidating, such as killing his victims in twisted ways such as putting a laughing poison in women's makeup. Batman’s vehicles and gadgets are interesting, ranging from a grappling hook to get to high areas, to a Batmoble and the Bat-wing (Flying vehicle). The Batmobile is inspired by an Chevrolet Impala chassis car, and able to form a shield for protection, and have a jet mounted on the back for super speed. The end of the car have little bat wings, which makes since since its a Bat-themed car, Then there's the Bat-Wing, which is a bat-shaped flying vehicle that can shoot bullets, and have its own grappling hook to catch things in air, such as pulling the poisonous balloons away from Gotham City. The fight scene between Batman and Joker was good as well, with Batman fighting his goons first and then going to find Joker. In the end, Batman uses his gripping hook to tie the Joker’s leg to the statue, making him fall down.

*a bit of extra notes*

Overall, the 1989 film is really good, and yes there is some goofy moments such as Batman moving his neck/back in a weird direction due to his suit, the film in some way did save Batman from being too campy, and becoming a more series look on him that we know of today.
Film rating is 10/10

What do you think of the film? What are your thoughts on my analyze of the movie?
