    Fallout Review

It's been a while since I've done some reviews, so I figure I'm gonna review something that I've been getting into a lot as of late; Fallout! I have finally become integrated into the fandom, and I am happy for it, I've been in love with this series more and more as I get involved with it. I've gotten Fallout 4 in honor of the show (which I intend to review at some point after I finish it) and I

    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Fallout Review · 3:29pm May 13th

It's been a while since I've done some reviews, so I figure I'm gonna review something that I've been getting into a lot as of late; Fallout! I have finally become integrated into the fandom, and I am happy for it, I've been in love with this series more and more as I get involved with it. I've gotten Fallout 4 in honor of the show (which I intend to review at some point after I finish it) and I have seen the series twice to better prep myself for this review; once for my own enjoyment, and a second to refresh my memory.

With that said; let us take a look at the video game adaptation of Fallout, the TV series! (btw I did put pictures in this originally but the site is crashing on me so I can't show any of 'em :ajbemused: )

Eleven years after Fallout 4, we follow vault dweller Lucy MacLean who gears herself up to leave her home of Vault 33 to rescue her father who has been kidnapped by a militia faction led by the mysterious Moldaver. She soon finds out the wasteland above isn't at all what she had hoped and not everyone is on board with Vault Tec's prescence. Along the way, she befriends a Brotherhood of Steel member who has been sent to find a target who escaped from the Enclave, and a cowboy ghoul with a mysterious past who is also going after the target. All the while something much more dark is happening within Vault-Tec's doors...

First thing I wanna say regarding my experiences with Fallout; I wasn't there from the start, I've recently come further into it when the show was released, and I was honestly always intrigued when I watched a lot of Fallout 4 playthroughs in my off-time. I've become more interested thanks to the show and game, so I am coming at this from my own experiences; obviously my eyes are gonna see things differently than everyone else, and that is perfectly okay. I will also say for this review, I will not be spoiling anything, so you don't have to ignore this review if you don't want any.

Right off the bat this show does something that makes it one of the best in my eyes; it honors the game. This show is drenched in so much Fallout lore, imagery, references, it feels like it truly exists in the Fallout universe. Even better is that this show isn't a retelling of something (or so I know), it is it's own story, own characters, focusing on a different part of people in the US in the wasteland, but still fitting with the game's universe. That's a very risky move, but you know what, I love it. I think it works so well. The people who worked on the show did their homework, certainly more than other people... *coughHalocough*. And to me at least, even if you don't know a damn thing about the games, you can still follow along and enjoy this series; I didn't feel lost while watching it, and while there are some references that some of my friends understood, I still felt like the story was easy to follow, but it didn't dumb things down for the audience. Major kudos.

Hell this show does not hesitate with how absolutely disgusting, grimy, and abhorrent the wasteland is. The landscapes out in the beaches look so damn dry and lifeless I honestly felt hot looking at it. The people are unclean, clothes are shredded, almost everyone looks like they haven't showered in years, buildings are destroyed, lots of rust and radiation everywhere, this wasteland feels terrible and I think the set designers and animators did a wonderful job there. And yet despite how disgusting it looks, it never feels like it's absolutely depressing. I am not gonna cry my eyes out every damn episode like I did with Last Of Us, this series knows how to have fun, and I love it.

The characters are also really solid; I found myself engaging with all three of our leads, and I wanted to see them succeed in their paths. Though if I have to pick my favorite character; it is the Ghoul.

Every time he's on screen, you immediately pay attention. There's so much mystery and intrigue to him that it makes you wanna know more about him. And his story is also really compelling, I fell in love with this character as the show went on and we learned more and more about who this man was before he became this nasty bounty hunter. Major props to Walton Goggins for his portrayal of him.

Hell, all the actors do a solid job, I honestly can't think of one performance that I could see was bad; everyone did a great job pulling their A-game for this show. Ella Purnell, Aaron Clifton Moten, Walton Goggins, Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudhury, Xelia Mendes-Jones, everyone is solid in this show. I hope to see more of them in the second season if it'll happen. And given the show's ending, I guarantee a second season will happen and I'm ready for it. :pinkiehappy:

The story while basic, is still easy to follow, and I feel like the other stories at play help keep the engagement. The Brotherhood of Steel side of things, along with learning the shady activities at Vault-Tec, and learning more about the Ghoul all keep things interesting and make you wanna know what will happen. Not gonna lie, there were some twists I legit wasn't expecting and threw me for a loop, so major kudos there.

The music choices? Splendid. Oldies music fit the vibe of the show as it should, love the usage of them. Hopefully we'll get Ghost Riders and Wanderer for the next season, would love to hear those used in the show.

My nitpicks with this show are very minimal, and that's all they are; nitpicks. For instance; the Handy units. I do wish we had gotten more of them, we only see two of them in the show, total. I wish they had more of them, like another companion or someone who was an ally. Hell for that matter, I would have loved to see an Assaultron being an active character. Now that's probably because of budget (I don't know what it was), but still, hopefully second season will include that. But like I said, it's only a nitpick, it isn't breaking the show for me.

And honestly overall... I recommend this show. If you're a fan of Fallout and haven't seen it, give it a watch, it's a fun time. And if you're just looking for casual fun, you'll get that too. Fallout is a fantastic TV show that stands on it's own legs while still paying tribute and honoring the Fallout material before it. It took the lessons that Halo didn't learn, and took it to heart. Let us hope the second season will be just as good as this.

I give Fallout the TV show, a solid 9 out of 10.

Thanks for reading, so sorry it took me so long to work on this, and hope ya'll are having an excellent day today. And keep an eye out, I might be working on something Fallout related for this site... :raritywink:

Glad you enjoyed it so much, Four! :yay:

Glad you liked it. Be sure to check out Fallout New Vegas. It is my favorite of the Fallout games.

As a lover of Fallout since it launched in my childhood, many memories of Fallout 1, 2 and then the jump to 3 (Cuz..we..we don't count those other ones between -.-), 4 and 76 (With a stop by NV) I can honestly say I was absolutely shocked at how well they did NOT screw this up.

The inside jokes were just enough that I got them, it was killer to see most of the lore was intact (Save a few bleh moments) and my only regret was that Odo died before he could potentially guest star in the series as Mr. House (Rob Co rep in episode 8).

I'm eagerly waiting season 2. Maybe even Ron Pearlman somewhere this time.
