I swear, this story wasn’t meant to be a trans allegory, but uh, well it definitely ended up basically being one.
Anyway! I’m super proud of my ‘art’ for this too. Sure it was just me editing together the cutie marks of Cadence and Amore, and then adding three stars like Shining’s has, but I did it on my phone and blegh.
For age comparison, the CMC would’ve been about 12 when they got their cutie marks, slightly later than average.
16 isn’t unheard of, but it’s definitely much rarer.
I kind of wanted to add a bit where Cadence jokes about the ‘three types of Luna worshippers: Goths, Party-goes, and Geeks’ commenting that if Flurry was goth their family would be the whole set (Cadence the partier, and Shining the geek) but couldn’t fit it in.
Whistle Wishes, Flurry’s best friend uses the design of the G3 Pony by the same name. Just all crystal-ly.
I was originally going to go with some other name with the word ‘wishes’ in it, but eh, I’m lazy, so I just used an extant pone with a good enough design.
Also yes, Minotaurs speak spanish. This is because they love any sort of ma(i)ze, and so have lots of corn or corn-based dishes.
...and my headcanon for Whistle getting into transmutation is that well, she’s trans and was suuuper interested in the process as a foal.
Whistle is actually better at material transmutation (especially crystal) than biological Fixing, but her motivations being what they are she’s plenty practised at both.
On that note: Fixing. Used both for gender stuff, as well as tribal stuff; notably situations like a pony being born without a horn, or having wings, but having the tribal magic of a unicorn instead of whatever tribe they physically look like.
I was originally going to have a section post-transformation where she’s like ‘woo, cutie mark!’ to her parents, but I’m lazy and couldn’t quite figure out how I wanted to do it.
Anyway! Woopwoop, first published story!! and my first oneshot ever too, because my normal ideas tend to be longform, but the idea for this one was blessedly compact.
