Project 2025 - Do Not Leave The World Behind · 10:59pm January 6th

Ordinarily I label the titles of my journals with the present date. This time around, I'm projecting ahead by a year. Because today is not only the twelfth day of Christmas, but also the three-year anniversary of an attempted coup in the United States of America, and 2024 shall be an especially fraught election year for it.

I am probably not telling anyone anything new by making mention of Project 2025, the Republican Party's plan to extensively "reshape" the federal government of the USA in the event of their electoral victory this year. Just remember, by means foul or fair, but mainly the former, they want this; curtailing LGBT+ and minority rights, banning women's choice for their own bodies on a nation-wide scale, dismantling environmental-protection policies, expanding the President's powers well past the system of "checks and balances" American democracy prides itself on.

And the name of the game is fascism.

I’m not panicking at the moment. Because quite frankly I believe that come November trump just won’t win. If he does, well that will be a different story. I plan on voting as soon as I get my ballot. At the rate the gop is going they will probably never get my vote again.

I wish I could share your optimism, 5762602

Future generations, assuming there are future generations who have learnt to look back on our times and see the absurdities in them, will ask "How could they let this happen?", much like what happened back in the 1930s. And it's most likely they'll be taught that we didn't know.

But we did know, not simply from having a precedent to refer back to, but because the whole programme was outlined for our convenience. Again, like in the 1930s.

I can see where you are coming from. Right now it looks bad. But I feel that we will get through this. Even if Donald trump wins (which I very much doubt) I don’t think he will get the support he needs to enact the changes people think he will make. I suspect however that he will say a lot of stupid things that will alarm and alienate people. Who then come November will come out give Biden four more years.

Also with the gop their voting demographic heavily skews towards the older generations like the silent generation and the baby boomers. While democrats have the millennials and gen z who together outnumber the baby boomers and skew democrats. I don’t have the studies on me that show this but it lines up with my day to day experience. I live in a very politically conservative are and people my age and younger have quietly told me that they were embarrassed by trump and were either going to vote for a third party or for Biden. I think in twenty years the gop is either going to be dramatically different from what is now, or be a fringe minority party.
