Trigger warning, the topic at hand is porn.
With that out of the way, I have to pose a question: How do people create characters, have them tell a story, and then write porn about those characters aside from the story?
I don't have any examples on hand of this (nor will I seek them out), but I know there have to be cases of it on this site. This isn't a question to insult or troll, I'm just genuinely confused at how people can do that. I understand that with actual porn content it's different, but to take a character- say, for example, Ray- and then write a sex scene involving him and another character that's been developed for a specific narrative, I just don't understand.
What prompted this question is, right before Christmas, I got a fourth private question about if I would ever write a sex scene involving my characters. While these questions are ultimately harmless and I'm glad they were asked in private, it's also had me seriously contemplating how an author does write a sex scene with a character they have created and developed. Almost all of my stories do have the Sex tag because sex is an important part of just life in general and another step in character development, especially romance, I've never given it much more thought that "these two characters end up together and have children". It's a mature thing that in my opinion doesn't need to be detailed, just explained or observed, if that makes sense.
Characters such as Ray, Hemorrhage, Joint/Moonsilver, and Star are all original characters I've developed and created as my own. They're key pieces of my imagination and vital to the narrative of the story I wish to tell with them. Until the first request for a sex scene, I hadn't even thought of what it would be like for any of them, even characters that I didn't create, to have a sex scene (I still can't imagine what it'd be like). Let alone the fact that I have only accidental exposure to porn and second-hand accounts from friends/family, I don't know how to write a sensual and ultimately personal experience for the sake of sexual gratification of the reader (also weird) with someone I've created. I just genuinely don't understand.
Like I said before, I don't pose this question to troll or start a fight, I just need an explanation so I can understand. I of course won't write porn/sex scenes, I'm just trying to understand where other authors are coming from to hopefully better understand them and the people who read their content, and why some might want to see it from my content.
Most of the 'porn' - or 'erotic', or whatever else passes for it in fanfiction - is an obtuse and crude projection of the author's private fantasies on the matter. It is a juvenile thing. If you aren't compelled to it or do not see in it an artistry (a lot in sex and erotic is about emotion and discovering of oneself and of another, at least in its more romantic and passionate interpretation that is befitting to the literature media), then you'd better to not touch the subject indeed.

Yeah, morally I wasn't ever gonna write it, and artistically I'm too confused to. If the point of it is emotional development, I still don't quite understand how sex itself needs to be involved, but I can understand it's use for emotional development.
Might be just the thought of seeing yourself as such a character and then using that character in your wild fantasy for your own pleasure or something along them lines.
