When the Twentieth Century began, the world was going mad, and the clouds were gathering.
Then, in June 1914, the clouds burst, and the First World marched to war against itself.
Some of the boys reassured their parents, saying they'd be home by Christmas.
But when Christmas came, they were still fighting, with no end in sight.
But then, up and down the Western Front, soldiers on one side just stopped fighting, and went out into No-Man's-Land, with decorations, candles, and even a soccer ball or two, and started singing Christmas carols, of all things.
And then, just as suddenly, the other side joined them, hugging the enemies they'd been trying to kill for the past several months, and would start trying to kill again come the morrow, joining in on the decorating, the carol singing, even the soccer games, though we don't know who won those games.
In a world gone mad, the soldiers on the Western Front went so insane that, when Christmas had arrived, they did the sanest thing they possibly could, and in turn gave a rare demonstration of humanity's goodness.
I love how Sabaton covers various historical topics, some of which are obscure and even surprising to learn more about outside their songs, such as the Soviet Night Witches, how respected the Red Baron was even by the Allies, the Siege of Schloß (Castle) Itter, and others.
Castle Itter itself was another event that showed itself to me as a testament of humanity's good nature but I'll let Sabaton themselves go into it.
