Christmas Thoughts & Stories That Didn't Make The Cut! · 2:31am Dec 20th, 2023
Hello my precious pony pals! Can you believe we are less than a week away from Christmas?! I still can't! I have so much baking and wrapping and watching Christmas movies to do! Nothing that a chai latte can't help with, haha!
I love Christmas. It is such a magical time of year from the lights to the decor to the music, but what I crave each year is the humanity shown in acts of service, love, and gift-giving. Christmas is not always about gift cards and materialism but can mean so much more. A meal prepared for a family in need, the first new shoes given to a child who loves to run and play, seeing the smile on a family member's or friend's face when coming together for the holidays. These small interactions, these glimpses into what I love about people, shine so brightly during Christmas.
I often think back to (weirdly enough) the question from Rise of the Guardians when North asks, "What is your center?" This has always stuck with me because I often thought my center was working hard or had something to do with gift-giving, but now I believe my center is something similar to North's, whether it be seeing the wonder in the world or perhaps seeing the light in everything and everyone.
On a different note, I've been getting into the holiday spirit with some unexpected musical magic – The Philly Special Christmas Album! Now, I may be a Baltimore Ravens fan at heart, but I couldn't resist giving this album a spin, and boy, am I glad I did. Let's talk about the standout track, "Pretty Paper" by none other than OT Lane Johnson. Now, I've seen this man dominate on the football field, but who knew he had a set of pipes that could rival some country legends? His rendition of "Pretty Paper" is nothing short of amazing, and I'm here to declare that Lane Johnson needs to drop a country album ASAP. Move over, Nashville – we've got a football star turned country crooner in the making!
As we cozy up by the fire and embrace the holiday spirit, let's dive into the enchanting world of Christmas movies and shows. I've got a handful of favorites that might surprise you, and who knows, they might just become your new festive traditions!
The Heartwarming Tale of "The Christmas Candle":
First up on my list is the unexpectedly heartwarming "The Christmas Candle." Despite not being particularly religious, I resonate with the movie's message about being someone's miracle. It beautifully captures the essence of helping our neighbors and spreading goodwill, reminding us that sometimes, we are the miracle someone needs. It's a touching story that transcends religious boundaries and celebrates the true meaning of Christmas.
Hand-Drawn Delight in "Klaus":
Ah, "Klaus" on Netflix – what a gem! Did you know that this visually stunning masterpiece is hand-animated? Talk about talent! The dedication to traditional animation techniques, coupled with the special technology for lighting, creates a cinematic experience like no other. The film's unique blend of darkness and beauty adds depth to the story, making it a must-watch. And kudos to Cinema Therapy for their insightful breakdown – it's always fascinating to uncover the layers of meaning in such a beautifully crafted film.
Surprising Warmth in "Christmas in Canaan":
Now, here's a classic with a twist – "Christmas in Canaan." At first, it might not scream "Christmas movie" as it delves into the complexities of prejudice issues between families. However, as the story unfolds, it weaves a tale of understanding, growth, and the true spirit of the season. The sequel only adds to the magic, making it a perfect choice for a heartwarming back-to-back watch. I won't spoil anything, but trust me, it's worth the ride!
Bonus Round – Share Your Favorites!
As we embark on this festive movie journey together, I'd love to hear about your favorite Christmas movies or shows. Whether they're heartwarming classics or hidden gems, share the joy and warmth of your holiday favorites. After all, 'tis the season for spreading love, laughter, and the magic of cinema!
The Hearth's Warming Eve Collection Cuts:
As we sip hot cocoa in our fuzzy socks, I wanted to share a bit of behind-the-scenes magic from my 2023 Hearth's Warming Eve Collection. While the collection is brimming with warmth and holiday cheer, not every tale found its way to the pages this year. Some stories, like stars in the night sky, will patiently wait for their moment to shine. Life, as we know it, can be a whirlwind of responsibilities and unexpected turns. Unfortunately, a few stories that were planned for this year's collection lost their way in the hustle and bustle. But fear not you do not have to wonder what they were because here are the story ideas:
- A romance story with Rarity & Twilight in a winter forest.
- A time-traveling story featuring Starlight Glimmer traveling backward in time to fix something that went wrong during the first Hearth's Warming Eve.
- A bittersweet Celestia & Sombra Drama/Romance story about her visiting him in the dreamscape on Hearth's Warming Eve while he is trapped (pre-crystal empire with Cadance era)
- A random romance about Lyra and Bon Bon
- A comedy story about Pinkie Pie being the Gift of Present
- A comedy Discord story about him creating chaos during the holiday season
- A magic ice skating story that whoever wears a set of magic skates becomes enchanted with winter magic
- I wanted to do a story about a snow globe, but no luck there!
- A story about Granny Smith and/or Grand Pear reflecting on loss during Hearth's Warming Eve.
- A Fluttershy story about giving pets as presents (not a great idea unless you are well-informed and ready for the responsibility).
So, my dear pony pals, as we countdown to Christmas, let's not forget to savor the magic in the simple acts of kindness, the warmth of giving, and the joy of togetherness. After all, it's these moments that make the holiday season truly enchanting.
Wishing you all a magical and heartwarming Christmas! 🎄💖
