    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Halloween Quicke Reviews #1 · 2:44am Oct 11th, 2023

Since it is October, I think it's time we get into the Halloween spirit and talk about horror flicks and shows! So let's not waste any time and begin!

Friday the 13th, Part I

I.. thought it was okay. Eh, I dunno. Maybe it's cause I've seen many other horror movies and shows that scared me more, but I thought it was alright. I will admit it did trick me with the main protagonist, I thought it was gonna be the girl hitchhiking on her way to the camp, but I was wrong. Also I will admit I dunno why, I was expecting this movie to be more of a camp film; not goofy camp, I mean like we see actual kids attending this summer looking camp and having fun all the while a slasher runs around. ... Wait, no, that's Sleepaway Camp, different movie I'm sorry.

It's definitely not bad, and it definitely is one of the classic slashers from what I've heard; but eh, I thoguht it was alright. Not bad, just not for me.

The Thing 2011

It does a good job of painstakingly making sure that it's continued into the original film since this is a prequel; but as a fan of the original, I kinda had several problems with this one. Title alone is an issue; confusing as hell. But somethin that especially ticked me off was the Thing itself; it is ABSOLUTELY STUPID. It reveals itself so many times that I'm waiting fro it to do it when it has no real reason to do so. No one suspects it's you, you stupid monster, stop transforming! Compare this to the Thing in the original film. If you watch it for the first time, you have zero idea who the hell it could be, and you're put in the same shoes as everyone else cause of how little you know; and upon rewatching, you can see subtle clues and details that make it feasible to tell who the Thing is. I bet you can't get that here, cause the characters are honestly so generic and bland that it's hard to get invested, and the Thing is too dumb. Doesn't help matters either that the characters are not just generic, but they are also incredibly stupid and it feels like a different movie entirely. There's making dumb decisions cause you're paranoid and sleep-deprived, and then there's too stupid to live.

I will say the ending is actually good; the last scene that plays over the credits is actually nice, I dare say that's a perfect segueway into the original film, but that's about it. Also how dare you not have a new variant of the theme song in full, movie. Playing for only a few seconds doesn't count, should have used the full damn song.

Freaky

I don't remember if I covered this one or not, so if I did, I apologize. But I really had fun with this movie; I love the twisted Freaky Friday scenario with the slasher genre, and I think that really worked here. There's so many great lines in this movie and I don't think a single one failed to make me laugh. I also will admit it's weird, but kinda cool seeing Vince Vaughn playing a slasher; I didn't know he had more range beyond comedy, and I think he did a decent job with what he had to do. Especially when it came to acting like a teenage girl, he is just hilarious portraying our main lead :rainbowlaugh:

There were also plenty of good heart-felt moments throughout which I liked, and I do love how creative some of the kills are. Now I don't advocate for violence or murder in the slightest, not at all, especially in real life... though I will say, the attack on three particular shit-heads later in the movie I think was one of the only times it was justified, even if it was done by the actual slasher, what they were about to do... grrrrrr. :twilightangry2: The movie does a good job making you hate the people you're supposed to hate.

And that's my slew of reviews for the evening, hope you enjoyed, and I hope to have something bigger later down the line! :scootangel:

If I recall correctly, Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives is the only film in the franchise where the camp is actually functioning with young kids present. It's often considered the best one.
