The next chapter of Filly Fluttershy, The Three Trials, is coming along. Most of you following have probably played the game (something that might be harder to say for a game that came out on the 3DS eleven years ago and tragically hasn't been ported to anything since), so I can tell you I'm up to the second trial, or the fifth, depending on whose counting. So it's safe to say that I'm about 2/3rds done. Then again, the fourth trial (or, still, the second) went for about 3,000 words, so not sure how long the rest is going to be. That one genuinely surprised me, but the Rainbow vs Chrysalis/Cadance battle in Scorched Feathers actually went for over 4,300 words, so still not the longest. I don't expect to cut it down by much, but we'll see what happens after a few drafts.
Speaking of drafts, I'm hoping to get through the first one by the end of the month, ideally by the end of the week. After that, I want to pivot over to the Dark Shy rewrite. Only thing is, I don't want to sit on a new chapter forever, so I'll give myself until around American Thanksgiving. After that, I'll go through some reads and revisions of The Three Trials and have it out sometime in December.
But for now, a little sneak peek:
“I’m glad that you accepted this mission,” Celestia said. “When you asked that the last mission be your final one, I feared that I would have to look elsewhere.”
Fluttershy shook her head. “Discord is still alive,” Fluttershy said. “It’s not over yet. So do we have a plan?”
“Given the current circumstances, I don’t see how we can defeat Discord,” Celestia said.
“Then what do we do?” Fluttershy asked.
“I’m working on it,” Celestia said. “That’s why we’re going to meet Granny Smith.”
There was that name again. “Granny Smith?” Fluttershy asked. “Discord mentioned that name yesterday. Who is she?”
There was an uncomfortable pause. “Granny Smith is the Goddess of the Forge,” Celestia said. “She made the Three Sacred Treasures. She created nearly every divine weapon in the pantheon, including the one you’re using now.”
“Wow,” Fluttershy said. “And I thought she might be Discord’s grandmother. Or with a name like that, one of Luna’s low-level fertility gods. So you think she can make us a weapon strong enough to stop Discord?”
“That’s what I’m hoping for,” Celestia said. “W-What did Discord say about Granny Smith?”
“Well…” Fluttershy said. “He seemed upset that I found a Zodiac Chamber inside his body. He said he was going to give her a piece of his mind.”
“Oh,” Celestia said, with what Fluttershy thought sounded like a sigh of relief. “Regardless, we should probably see her as soon as possible.”
