Thoughts on No Second Prances · 2:15am August 7th
This Episode explores Starlight and Trixie as characters with similar backstories, both unicorns who had beef with Twilight and are trying to reform themselves. The episode is basiclly Starlight Glimmer having to find a new friend, and she struggles with using her magic abit too much to try to force a bond. She eventually meets Trixie by accident, and they quickly bond, but Twilight is against the friendship as she fears Trixie might bring out Starlight's dark side. But the truth is she was rather suspicious of Trixie, and she is right to mistrust her. But Twilight was being way too mistrusting and not giving Starlight the room to grow on her own. But it turns out Trixie was using her new friendship with Starlight to pull one over Twilight. When this is revealed to Starlight, she leaves, and the craziest part was Trixie actually becomes depressed seeing how she messed everything up. Then sort of almost commits suicide, jumping into a Manticore's mouth and trying to perform a trick she couldn't pull off without Starlight's help. Lucky for her, Starlight comes back to save her life.
This has to be one of my favorite episodes in season six because it shows that this was a test for Starlight in learning to make a new friend and shows she's committed to changing who she is. This experience also taught Twilight not to be too quick to judge a pony like Trixie and allowed Starlight to decide for herself how to be a good friend. Then Trixie got a lesson on getting over her jealousy of Twilight and seeing that it was ruining her relationships.
I enjoyed the humor, and the dialogue was well-written. Also loved the dinner bit with Twilight and Princess Celestia, where she gets stuck with Cranky, Derpy, and Vinyl. Love how Cranky comments on Celestia's hair and asks her how she makes it wave.
