Welp! I don't have respect for MAP anymore. · 10:51am Jun 20th, 2023
My friend from Discord shared a video about Zaid Magenta (f.k.a. MisAnthro Pony) being a cyberbully.
I watched the whole thing and it left me with feelings of disgust and disappointment after finding out that he downplayed someone's insecurities and anxiety issues and called them "petty".
Truth be told, I used to have a mindset similar to him. I hated a lot of crappy and cash-grab content and shitty mainstream music. I agree with the negative critical reception and I'm always frustrated that the general public watch and listen to that kind of crap and don't have criticism towards that crap. That mindset led me to suffer from depression. Now, for the sake of my mental health, I distance myself from content and music that I personally despise and let people enjoy things. Had I not taken care of my mental health, I would've ended up being a bitter pessimist like him.
The problem with his mindset is it lacks nuance. You'd think some of the things he criticizes did absolutely nothing right, and of course he can't accept anyone can enjoy something despite its flaws.
MAP? Talk about an unfortunate acronym.
My main issue with Zaid is that he both lacks nuance and frequently has a very surface-level understanding of the content he reviews. His review of A New Generation is a case in point; he constantly says word to the effect of 'but they don't explain this' or 'they retcon that' without explaining why those are the case, and frequently gets basic information about the film's characters wrong. For example, he calls Sunny a 'Twilight Sparkle clone', overlooking the fact that one of the first things we see Sunny do is engage in civil disobediance to protest unjust laws. Twilight, although sometimes skeptical of the way things are run, would never challenge authority so openly.
Shame to see so many creators go drunk on power and get petty.
