I write pony words. Millions of them. Some people actually think they might be worth reading. I am very thankful for that. Also, I have a Patreon now?

    My birthday

Today I turned 32. For reference, when I started on this site, I was a simple college student. Now I'm married with 4 kids. Time does fly.

    So...

As many of you well know, I'm a father of three. A four-year-old, a two-year-old, and a one-year-old. It's pretty great. Can be difficult, but overall a pretty big blessing. How my wife takes care of three kids five days a week is beyond me, as I have a hard time taking care of them two days a week when my wife goes off to work.

    So yeah...

    Editing help

Yes, I'm calling out for editors again. I want to submit a story to the Cozy Glow contest, and I want to make sure that the story I just wrote for it is good, or "wow, that's a jumbled mess of ideas, far too mean, and the ending is terrible."

Let me know if you'd like to help. Any extra eyes would be highly appreciated.

I was binging the Puppet Master series for... reasons... and... you know... Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys... just...

You know what, it doesn't matter.

It was about when I got to Puppet Master... seven, I think it was? It's the one that has the guy from The Room in it.

Oh hai Mark.

In any case, it was as I was watching that movie that I started to wonder "what if Z-grade horror sequels got A-list directors behind them?"

What would the a Birdemic: Shock and Terror sequel look like directed by Jennifer Kent (Babadook)? How about Puppet Master... whatever we're up to. Ten? Eleven? Whichever, what would the latest sequel look like in the hands of Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar)? Or what would Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 look like with Robert Eggers (The VVitch) behind the camera? Or Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope) helming the newest Demonic Toys film? There are already four of those.

By the way, I saw the first Blood and Honey last night. It was everything I thought it was going to be. Full review forthcoming.

The caveats to this is that the directors have the same average budget as the previous films, and they have to do their best to stick to whatever established lore possible. I know that would be incredibly hard for a lot of the films, since horror franchises never stick to their own lore, but they'd have to do their best. Also, they can't cast anyone who has been in anything else. First-timers only. They'd have full control of every single other detail otherwise.

What would we get? Better movies, that's for sure, but how much better? We'll probably never know, but if anyone who is a big shot in a major Hollywood studio is reading this (oh, what do I mean if?) try this. Make my idea a reality. These movies cost eight dollars apiece to make. What is there to lose?

I dunno. What do you guys think?

First in line will be Michael Bay; critics hate his movies, but it's because he picks scripts based entirely on how much money he'll make off of them. A low-budget movie with a big name like his to draw the crowds sounds right up his alley.

Man, I remember Puppet Master as a kid. It was part of a bunch of other stuff from Full Moon Entertainment that made up the bulk of weekend VHS rentals going over to my dad's house. That and cheesy sci-fi like Robot Jox.

Ooh. Another person who can indulge in the charming cheese of the Puppet Master movies.

As to your question. I'm afraid of the directors your thinking of going for the obvious CGI rout with the puppets. Part of the charm of the puppets is that they are usually done with cheap but practical effects. I really like stop motion and the puppets have always looked pretty good when they animate that way.
Though, I don't think Jester has ever looked as good as he did in the first Movie.

Ah, went back and re-read your post. They're working with the same low budget level. ok.
Well. maybe not as much stop motion, but we might get cleverer puppetry, like the puppets moving while only partially on screen.
Sam Raimi really seems like he would be a great fit for a puppet master movie. An Evil Dead vibe feels like it would go with the series pretty well.
