Lately I been thinking of making a yugioh fanfic of my because I been a huge fan of yugioh since I was little from the first yugioh series up to yugioh rush duel and this is the idea I had come up with.
Steven Blaze is a average duelist who like dreaming big and one of this dreams is to become the worlds strongest duelist like this older brother Henry Blaze who was the worlds number one ranked undefeatable duelist but one day his brother mysteriously vanished without a trace.
Wanting to see his brother again Steven decided he'll do what he can to find him again and if becoming a strong duelist like this brother will help him find his brother than that's what he will do that if he wasn't transported to a world unfamiliar to him that's filled with magical talking ponies who knows how to duel and have duel disks of their own.
But Steven will soon find out that there are those who duel for fun here because within the shadows are is a group who call themselves The Shroud Of Darkness who turn those they defeat into cards and who apparently know about his brothers disappearence many years ago.
Finding out hey has a lead to this brother disappearance Steven will have to defeat The Shroud Of Darkness and stop whatever plans they have while getting the information he wants about his brother whereabouts.

You need to consider what era of duel monsters your in first
YUGIOH first series where tribute monster with effects or support, ritual monsters and fusion monsters had the most power
YUGIOH GX where combos started having more precedence's and more fusion monsters with more power being introduced
YUGIOH 5DS Where clever planning and some luck can allow you to take advantage of you opponents mistakes which introduced Synchro monsters
YUGIOH ZEXALS Introducing xyz cards and a much more easier time summoning strong monster that have limited effect usages
YUGIOH Arc(I think) Introducing pendulum summon which i don't even know how to use
YUGIOH VRAINS introducing Link summoning that make stupid complicated strategies to fill the board negate the enemy and make duel monsters less fun because it means if you start second turn you'll just automatically lose.
YUGIOH RUSH have not played or seen it so I have no opinion.
I believe considering the setting of equestria and its technological advancement. including the human world the generation its built upon would be OG YUGIOH or YUGIOH GX. Since synchro summoning is actually used as a power source along with XYZ both of them being mentioned something to do with nuclear power. Plus lack of mentioning Duel runner meaning no pendulum or synchro monsters potentially (synchro favourite summoning mechanic actually lol) could havepotential with OC and Rainbow dash being rivals on duel runners if its included.
I believe XYZ generations mentioned something with aliens or a different dimension of monsters so you'll need to included them as well if you wish to use them.
With the first 3 generations you'll only need to worry about the spirit world where t duel monsters comes from.
Link and pendulum I honestly don't know anything lore or canon wise since I just stopped watching after the 1st 3 episodes of zexal swearing off the newer generations and stick with the fist 3.
Fun fact every main character in each generation of yugioh had "YU" included in their name or last name
Hope this helps out with deciding which yugioh cards to use when simulating a battle between OC and other characters
