On this day, my 28th birthday
I stop and think about the ways
I've grown and changed, the paths I've taken
The dreams I've had, the mistakes I've shaken

I wish that I could freeze this moment
Hold on to youth, avoid the foment
Of aging, wrinkles, and grey hair
But alas, I know it's all out there

So instead, I'll embrace each year
And all the joy and pain that's clear
I'll laugh and love and learn and grow
And let the years just come and go

For aging is a gift, a chance to see
The world in all its complexity
To gather wisdom, to find our way
To live each day in our own unique way

So here's to 28, and all the years ahead
May they be filled with love and joy, not dread
For every day is a chance to live and thrive
To find our place and make our lives come alive
