Got himself another queen to add to his herd if he was the type to do so, that lucky lucky man, sure wish this all would happen to me, jealous. Also, sorry for the spoiler, i dunno how to do spoiler txt
And so the Grove of Silence, home of the #1 human fanclub in Equestria, is added to the growing list of places he totally has to come back to at some point. I quite like this interpretation of the Kirin. Hopefully that isn't the last we'll see of them. James's realization of the true heritage of the exotic creature he was talking to was felt by me. Almost like the feeling of meeting a long-lost relative, or a whole village of them to be exact. I thought the talk about him being special was going in a weird direction, but the explanation Autumn gave about it suddenly made perfect sense. Of course he's the first human they've meet who feels different about Equestria. A land is appreciated by its immigrants in a very unique way, because they alone have something to compare it against. That could be a piece of the puzzle of what turned the human Empire to xenophobia.
That mysterious phantom encounter left me scratching my head, interrupting my laughing about him using the hoverboard shield tech. Who was that, exactly? And unless they were only there to conveniently fix his ankle I get the feeling they'll be important later.
I can only wonder the questions that they have when the humans just disappeared without knowing whats really going on and being isolated at that... It sure is understandable on how they approach james hopin to see more of them in the future...
Although I wonder how the main 6 are doing... And if they will catch up in time? Well poor celestia as she has responsibilities weighting on her soldiers and must set aside her personal feelings first and I pity smolder on how she would react about james departure..
Look like James have met one of the Pillars of Old Equestria.
So I have a question.
I have read the first chapter of this mammoth of a story. Before I get deeper in to this I need some context the first chapter didn't provide.
Is the main character afflicted with emotional or mental handicaps? His reaction to his situation does not come across as that of a well adjusted and capable adult. Maybe they are very young (preteen/tweenager) and I didn't catch that?
Please understand I am not trying to be negative or trolling. I am simply asking for context before I get too much in to a very lengthy work.

The guy is a sensitive young man who has found himself in a confusing and alien situation far from home. I apologize if his mindset is not one you can relate to or comprehend.

I didn't even think about that way.
Believe me, I wanted to review the previous chapters first, but this one was too good to pass up after the first read.
It may very well be my interests talking, but I think that this is some of your best work at the present time.
I'm sure we've all been there; spimply trying to have some fun and it bites us back. Poor James.
At first, when James was floating along the earthen-tunnel, I expected him to run into Catrina and her bushwoolie minions. I was most surprised when I found out who was really there; Mistmane herself! I never would've guest that you would've found a use for one of the other Pillars of Old Equestria besides Star Swirl the Bearded, nor did I expect James to be healed so quickly, from plants no less!
Still, the question remains; what is she in this story, and what significance does she have? If even the Royal Family doesn't know, then it's a mystery that may be settled after the current conflict. Still, the fact that she knew about the absence of humanity in the Empty Plains and the approaching danger gives us something to think about.
It seems that, similar to how the Elements of Harmony projected the souls of their bearers inside James' mind during their final battle with Discord, the Element of Humanity reacted to what it would've once called 'its home territory,' but unlike Ruby, who is an actual ghost, what James saw where merely shadows of the past. It was like "The Haunted Mansion" meets "A Christmas Carol." I understand what James was thinking. Sometimes it seems that some people are never satisfied no matter how hard you/they try.
Speaking of mysteries, when James saw that one pony in the valley, I thought it was Daring Do at first. Boy, was I way off! Do you remember when I asked you about your use of the many intelegent species in your works? Well, I also said that I wanted to avoid spoilers concerning the kirin, and I'm glad that I did. Again, you did not disappoint. Actually, I didn't anticipate you introducing the kirin until Volume 6 or the sequel, "Return of Humanity," so reading about them was a very welcomed surprise.
I thought it was a nice touch how you took their silent treatment from "Sounds of Silence" and turned it into something that you could use; a failsafe for the wary traveler. The chapter's title should've been a giveaway to their introduction.
I liked that bit of confusion between Nightmare Moon and Rain Shine. As Nightmare Moon once said, she was Princess Luna at one point and, despite being a separate entity, she still has all of Luna's memories prior to her defeat in "Friendship is Magic, Part 2." It is no surprise that the kirin would be semi-out of touch with the rest of Equestria.
Also, it's nice to see that Autumn Blaze is still as much of a chatterbox as she was on the show. It's amazing; first Pinkie Pie, then Silverstream and now Autumn Blaze. I can only imagine how well they would play off of each other if their three paths ever crossed at once. Also, I found it funny how she seemed to be even more misunderstood about Pinkie than Silverstream was. Friends with food?! Really?! Than again, there was Mr. Turnip and Madame Le Flour.
You know how I said that your works give me similar vibes to many other pieces of literature, media and the like? Well, this chapter had several, especially concerning the kirin themselves.
First, are you familiar with the various PC Games by Humongous Entertainment? I used to love playing them when I was younger; particularly "Putt-Putt." I was first introduced to the little, purple car through a sample game from "Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo," the third game in the series, which I saw at either a library or a bookstore. The first time I properly played one of the series' games was the fourth, "Putt-Putt Travels Through Time," where he traveled to three different time-periods in the past and one in the future.
The point that I'm trying to make is this; James and his pony friends crossing paths with the kirin, like the hippogriffs before them, gives me similar vibes to when Putt-Putt traveled to the Medieval Times and the Old West, meeting carriages, carts and covered-wagons. Heck, I feel the same vibe when James meets ponies and other species that are unfamiliar with him, and that goes as far back as the first chapter in this story.
Next is how you identify the kirin; an all-female species who require males from others to reproduce and the maidens having a maximum lifespan of five-thousand years.
On a side note, I want to admit that in spite of you not telling me anything about your plans for the kirin out of request, I happened to come across your perception of their gender situation from an image on Derpibooru. Even though their differences have been officially identified by Jim Miller, this can be yet another point in the show that can be left up to interpretation, similar to Spike's future relationship with Rarity. Also, the kirin's lifespan is never mentioned either, and therefore fares the same way, as is their connection to humanity. Then again, as you said, and as I have read elsewhere, the latter can easily be drawn from kirin history.
Anyway, your description of kirin gives off similar vibes to the Asari from the "Mass Effect" video games.
I admit that I found out about these games by accident when these aliens were mentioned elsewhere and I was curious. Still, I admit that any interest I have in that series is less than moderate.
Moving on, the Asari are described as such: mono-gendered humanoids that are female in appearance who can reproduce with any gender or species, including themselves, and posses a maximum lifespan of one-thousand years.
Unlike the kirin, who posses certain physical, and chemical, elements from their fathers, like blood or physical actions, an Asari's 'daughters' will always be one-hundred percent Asari, but like the kirin, certain elements from the 'fathers' are obtained, including racial traits and understanding. Also, similar to how Autumn Blaze's father was not a permanent resident, sometimes Asari and their mates only meet once and go their separate ways afterward.
The third, and most notable, this similarity that I see with the kirin is something that goes back to some time after I first saw them on the show. Given their lifestyle, how closely they are connected with nature and their connection and history with humans, they appear to closely parallel the fairies from the film, "FernGully: The Last Rainforest" from 20th Century Fox. Your backstory for the kirin's association, and destruction, with the deer's society sounds very similar to the fairies' backstory at the beginning of the film.
In the respects that I have mentioned above, the kirin appear to not only posses similarities to the fairies of FernGully, but the Never Fairies of the Disney Fairies franchise as well, but to a lesser extent. You could say that while the forest fairies share the kirin's connections with nature, more so than the Never Fairies, the latter's ways of living are along similar lines to the kirin.
On another note, in both regards, I would not be surprised if other readers didn't notice Autumn Blaze and Rain Shine's similarities to Crysta and Magi Lune and Tinker Bell and Queen Clarion respectively.
The last, and smallest, similarity of all is the kirin's use of plants, particularly bellflowers, to listen to the outside world. Anyone who knows could easily see that point as a reference to the Thomas the Tank Engine franchise; specifically, the theatrical film, "Thomas and the Magic Railroad." The bellflowers were a magical means for the Conductor family to communicate with others, which is more so than how Autumn Blaze described them, unless the kirin have two-way communication through them.
Back to the deer society, I remember asking you what you thought of them being present in the franchise, and you said that all would be revealed in time. I suspected that I was on my way to receiving answers when you mentioned them in the last chapter, and now we know what really happened to their society in your continuity. I'm not that familiar with how they are represented in the brand, apart from Aurora, Bori and Alice, but if their pride, arrogance and thoughts of superiority surpasses both the Canterlot elite and most dragons, it is no small wonder that, here, their selfish ways led to their own undoing. At least the nomadic ones that are still around are on decent terms.
On another side-note, I thought that, in both the brand's continuity and yours, the alicorns emerged after the founding of Equestria. I suppose that is yet another piece of curiosity that will be answered in time.
I also found it cute how Autumn Blaze described herself as being "not exactly a pony." As I have read, while all kirin have hooves and usualy posses dragon heads, their bodies usually resemble horses, oxen or deer.
In contrast to the deer society's downfall, I found the backstory of Sequoia Valley's clan to be very touching. It makes me wonder....back when separate species, and sub-species, governed themselves, were the humans the first to seek friendship from another? Wow! The irony.
In spite of not being completely closed off from the rest of the world, it's still a shame that Rain Shine's village is so isolated. Hopefully that will change in time. Still, the question remains; why, and/or how, did the humans overlook the Grove of Silence prior to their downfall?
If the kirin's ways of cooking are as amazing as you described, I can only imagine what Applejack and Rarity would say.
It truly amazes me how many great people there are in the world; ponies who value innocence, hippogriffs who value happiness and kirin who value peace and love (Ringo Starr pun intended ). It's yet another lot of three who I would love to see crossing paths. In my opinion, they're just great.
Speaking of valuing peace and love (), I also caught the "Incredible Hulk" reference in regards to the kirin's anger. It makes me wonder how long it will be before the nirik are exposed.
To think that it was simply plain misfortune that caused the humans to distance themselves from kirin; how sad. Hopefully, history will not repeat itself again.
I also found James' bonding time with Autumn Blaze to be rather pleasant. It's similar to the old saying, "Sometimes you don't appreciate what you have until you loose it." Equestria really is a place where anyone can find a better life after seeing "the other side."
Still, what will James and Nightmare Moon face next? Only time will tell. đź•“

If you’re unfamiliar with the deer, look up their history in the IDW comic series. They are extremely unpopular among the fandom, possibly more so than the yaks, and for good reason.

Correction: Aurora, Bori, and Alice are reindeers, not normal deers. Plus their spot in the world of Equestria makes absolutely no sense since one of them knows any pony’s past, one knows what they’ll do or say in the future, and then there’s the normal one. It just doesn’t make sense and it’s just plot-convenience
The Deers did appeared in the IDW comics, and they surely are very much disliked by the fandom for multiple reasons
