3972077 Weird. I don't seem to recall writing that...
3972077 Where did it mention starting a polygamous relationship?
3972244
Must have misread, my bad
...you know...I get that darker works saturate the market. I do. But to try and pretend that violent or dark stuff was never popular before now...for Pete's sakes, shows like GI Joe and the A Team were all about blowing up bad guys. The exploitation genre STARTED in the 70's and 80's. And the hit song "Timothy" from the late 70's was about two boys cannibalizing a third boy as they got stuck in a collapsed mine!
There's always gonna be a niche for darker stuff the way there's going to be a niche for LIGHTER stuff. Lines like the one you let out just come off as Superboy Prime-esque whining about "EVERYTHING WAS BETTER IN MYYYY EARTH" and a mixture of old time, whining old people going "back in the day, things were so much better".
3972351 That may be true, but tell me that it was not to the extreme they are today back in the 90s. It is everywhere today, and unlike in the 90s, it has taken over much of even the video game market. Gone are the days of innocent fun platformers taking up much of the market. Now it's mostly about gorey FPS games that are hardly different from each other most of the time.
Even if that type of exploitation started decades ago, it is difficult to argue that it has reached an all-time extreme high in this most recent decade to the point where it is EVERYWHERE. Do a tally of how many live action shows revolve around that stuff. Deadwood, Sopranos, Dexter, to name a few.
3972583
Dude, you don't think the 90's didn't have dark stuff? That was the era when big, muscular antiheros got popular. The glory days of Frank Miller and grim and gritty comics rose to prominence.
It's a matter of cultural balance. We had dark action in our comics in the form of the Punisher and Spawn and Rob Liedeld's work, and heck, Batman killed in the movies! YIKES. But in contrast, we had on the other end innocent games like Mario and Sonic. And today, we have something similar. Our comics and movies might be dark...but our most popular cartoons are my little pony and a fantasy adventure cartoon about a boy and his magic dog in "adventure time". And we still want our heroes to be stalwart...it's why the Internet RIOTED over Superman killing Zod.
Our heroes are Clark Kent. Gandhi. Jesus. MLK and Peter Parker. Not Pol Pot, Himmel, Robespierre. We love the earnestness and whimsicalness of Doctor Who. And our most trusted news source of our generation is a pair of satirical news stations from two genuinely nice guys in the form of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
Dark stuff might be an occasional release, maybe we play violent video games and do have too much of a focus on the cynical side of things in our culture. But that's not the way things actually are. It's just easier to see things negatively than positively. But the people who sit about and complain don't change the world. The people who can imagine better do. The idealists are the truest humans.
That...is the spirit of humanity.
brain overloaded with words
and I noticed this
3972884 My apologies, but I really do not plan the lengths out at all. Shocked myself when I saw the word count.
If I may ask, what did you enjoy most from this one?
Hmm...I'm curious. is James basically going to be making his own 'herd' as it were?
ALSO
his ranking initials: "Equestria's Only Human" And "Element of Humanity"
Oh and when you had the Doctor show up at Derpy's house, I dare suspect, that you listen to Doctor Whooves and Assistant. Don't you?
*quick edit*: Also, you have a HUGE gift for writing my friend. the entire time I was practically screaming at my computer, "YOUR ARMOR GIVES YOU WINGS MORON! GET YOUR ARMOR AND FLY THERE YOURSELF!" then when he finally realizes it. "YES STUPID!"
Your stories (this one and both Forbidden Love, and Rukario Romance, back on fanfiction.net) REALLY get me riled up, and tug at my heart, You are GOOD! and I give you my praise at it!
3972779 I could counter that claim, but I am too tired to continue this discussion. Believe what you will.
3973050 No, not really. The only one I follow at times is Lovestruck Derpy on Youtube. And to be honest, I know next to nothing about Doctor Who. I had to rely on the aid of a Doc savvy friend to make certain I was doing him justice in this one. Turns out, I had no trouble at all.
And as for the herd, no. Strictly with Fluttershy. But sharing love with others? That is very possible.
I know. I've done it.
3973065 Oh of course, Also, the universe of Lovestruck Derpy and Doctor Whooves and Assistant is the same verse, as Ditzy/Derpy is his 'assistant' his version of Rose Tyler/Doctor Who's Assistant in it if you will. I'd highly recommend it. Especially the 5th episode, called 'Sunset' (and yes, She does give him a CRAPTON of crap about English Muffins in the show. she just downright DESPISES it. ) but I see. also in 'Sunset' let's just say that something ends up happening involving Tia...that got me REALLY riled up.
also, if it were not for the fact that you just said you know next to nothing about Doctor Who, I'd have asked you who your favorite Doctor was. (for the record, mine's 10...)
also, another reference: the brown box he brought up with Button's Mom: you were referring to the old Atari 2600 weren't you?
3973111 After chatting with my friend, I would have to say my favorite would likely be #10 as well.
And the Atari? No, I mean THE Brown Box. Look it up. It's pretty much THE first home console ever made. Pretty much a homebrewed prototype.
3973418 Hmm. I see. interesting. also, were you referring to the infamous Hammer Bros of old with the Sledgehammer wielding Minotaur? when James mentioned being glad that there wasn't another one on a raised platform?
3973228 Someone has to make that a real game. They just have to! I'd totally play it!
And yeah, I did try with Derpy. Leave it to this video to plant inspiration.
For those who have not seen this, grab some tissues first.
3973487 Sure was. They were at their worst in the 85 classic.
3973602 Thought so, and I believe you should play Lost Levels before you say that. in Lost levels...there are Hammer Bros (SINGLE ONES mind you, or rather, thank god) that will HUNT YOU DOWN, by moving towards you on the screen, constantly throwing hammers like always, and jumping occasionally. however, they revert back to normal behavior after passing them, but that doesn't excuse the cruelty. that you may NOT survive the encounter due to them walking towards you, and tossing hammers and/or jumping, just to get you. but after passing they will revert to normal Hammer bro behavior.
3973669 Oh god, how did I forget about that?! You're right, they do.
3973702 I think you forgot because it was never released in the US outside of the Virtual console, Super Mario All stars, Super Mario Bros Deluxe and such. it was japan only for a while. but yeah. they were their cruelest in the Lost Levels game due to the fact that at some times, a single hammer bro would show up, and move towards you to end our plump plumber's life by touch, tossing hammers, and/or jumping itself. thank GOD it was only ONE hammer bro to do that, and that they behaved normally after you passed them. (be it running under, or jumping over if you've got the brass balls to do so)
So.
A beautiful pegasus, a beautiful unicorn, and a beautiful earth pony all encounter a kind and caring human.
Does this seem like the beginning of a harem comedy to anyone else?
3973731 I know that because I've played it. Got the game on my Wii and 3DS.
3973952 Harem? I'm not seeing it. Besides, one is a married mare with a colt to feed.
Still, take one look at this woman and tell me who wouldn't get some ideas right away.
Those eyes... Always alluring. Without fail...
3973979
I admit, she does have a nicely shaped body, but...
MEH.
Not my type, I suppose.
56k words?
*cracks knuckles*
Bring it on
EDIT : finished it in 1 hour. Awesome chapter!
If you don't like violent and dark things, then I don't recommend Transformers. Long story short, a world populated by bio-robotic life was torn into 2 factions. Yes, the ENTIRE planet's population. Older series of them seem rather childish, but modern day series are darker than before. I seem to like Transformers because it served as a constant reminder that everything has it's opposite, despite the overwhelming crowd. Like the most light of the groups still has a hint of evil. While the most dark of groups tend to have a hint of light... I think I understand the Yin and Yang symbol now. Every group has a little of it's opposite, regardless of their intentions.
I also liked Transformers cause the good side has a leader that seems to rival all wisdom in the universe. And dare I say, including Princess Celestia. But I think the leader of the good side would be in very good terms with the Princess.
Sorry about the ongoing Transformers praise, got my "fan-boy" mood going.
Regardless, like Nightmare Moon, there was still that tiny dot of light within that darkness. Which is why the Elements spared her, because it's a cleanser, container, and controller, but not a destroyer. Why was Discord contained, and why Nightmare Moon isn't, I'll never know.
Even the Mane Six have a dark side... Despite their humble and caring personalities. Honesty, Laughter, Generosity, Kindness, Loyalty, and Magic, or I'd like to call, "Wisdom". Without their counterparts, Lies, Hatred, Greed, Cruelty, Betrayal, and Insanity... The Elements of Harmony, or the Mane Six would not have existed.
3973953 Hmm...how much is it on the 3DS eShop? I have THOUGHT about torturing myself by playing it....but never got it on my wii...so I can't buy it now since I can no longer buy wii points cards. wii u only now...*does NOT have a Wii U*
And for this story's comment, I really love it. Finished it before the next day rolled by! I especially enjoyed the gaming with Button Mash, Eliena, and Derpy. I swear, The Legend of Zelda games are improving my reading. When I get into a game, I let myself go a little, and then the fun begins. Granted, it's just a game, but it's no fun at all if you did was play it.
3974418 thank you. May I ask what sections earned the most praise?
3975229 I enjoyed the video game part of the chapter due to how descriptive you were of it. I also liked how you made James deal with Rarity's love with him. Finally I like how you go more in depth on derpy and Doctor hooves' character
3974784 Haven't those been replaced with Nintendo Point cards?
3976143 Yes, but from what I can tell, they would ONLY work on Wii U and 3DS...if they worked for the original Wii, I'd buy some on occasion to get Link to the past, and ATTEMPT Lost Levels. but as far as I know, they only apply/work on Wii U and 3DS.
3973024 haven't finished yet :'(
3976403 Oops, sorry. Well, let me know when you do.
3976506 favorite part is the Doctor
YOU BROKE MY WALL!
I'LL KILL YOU AND MAKE YOU INTO CUPCAKES!
3973529
3976711 Hey, someone had to bring up the unexplained origins of the timber wolves!
But what is the video for?
3976981
derpy's life story summarized
telling us she was born with Strabismus, and how she was picked on as a filly because of it.
how she got her cutie mark (seven bubbles representing luck and fragility.)
and that she was raised by a former Wonderbolts member (her mother?)
EOH = Equestria's Only Human
Oh man, James is an intellectual wimp! Every time he is presented with a thought challenge, like Pinkie Pie's abilities, or the Doctor and the TARDIS, he gets scared and backs away! What would Twilight think of him for doing that?!
By the way, I'm assuming the show "Doctor Who" does not exist in the human world where James is from? Even a half-whit would have recognized the blue box if they saw it, so I can only assume that James couldn't have ever seen the show.
3987372 when considering inquiring into something that seems otherworldly or just bizarre like the machinations of the Dr. Who universe, one should ask themselves this. "Do I need to know?"
Besides, after Derpy, someone who seems to have a good head on her shoulders, explained that she would have seizures whenever The Doctor went into detail about his 'job', it would be understandable that someone else would think twice about asking.
3988874
If someone is capable of having a seizure when they hear speech, they must have a really fcked up auditory system. I've head plenty of speech I didn't understand, but I don't think I ever had a seizure over it, I simply didn't follow.
As for asking yourself, "Do I need to know?", for me, the answer is always "Yes", and that's not just because I see the world a very different way than most people see it. I understand James in this story isn't like that, but it was established earlier that he has a rational and logical mind.
3990188 Well, at the same time, I do intend to get this printed and I am trying to avoid the inclusion of anything that is copyrighted from outside the MLP series. I am not certain how those behind the Dr. Who series would take it, so I'm not taking chances.
https://www.sofurry.com/view/420517
Seems I have found you here as well.
4006365 Thank you. If you ever have time, I would love to hear what you enjoy most about the story and what the highlights of each chapter are for you.
I'm currently halfway through the chapter, and i have to say... It feels almost like a chore reading through it. There is just so much filling! Completely useless and unnecessary anecdotes or rambling.
I recognize that you have put an awful lot of work into this, and i'm not trying to make light of that, but of the first half, at least, you could easily cut 70-80% of the text. In my opinion, that would be an improvement. Sometimes, less is more. Seriously, what is the purpose of, for example, having James ask the same question twice in the scene with Rarity, and getting the same answer? (on whether to keep it a secret or not)
A lot of the time, it barely even feels like there is an actual direction with the story.
4006676 It's written in a first person slice of life style for much of those chapters, so of course there will be lots of simple events like that. Some like it, some don't.
But that scene? Could you please tell me where I can find it so I can look it over and see if it needs editing?
You can crtl+f these sentences if you want:
