Some Things to Note · 1:15pm Jul 11th, 2021

1. "Mob justice" never, ever, serves a legitimate need. It's amusing (and disturbing) to see the people who spend so much time claiming to be the champions of minorities and the oppressed unironically claim that mob justice is a useful tool, when by its very nature, it is a tool of the majority, the group that can call up the bigger "mob". Moreso, it necessarily comes into play only when the actions the mob wants to take are sufficiently horrible that the actual laws as written by

Moderator who spent the last two years giving his friends a pass when they violated the rules on hate speech and personal attacks is upset that those people continued to foment hate speech and make personal attacks; proposes the solution of no longer calling them his friends, because as a mod that's clearly the only thing he can do.

And now another mod has informed me that declaring people you don't like to have no human rights is not considered against the rules, at least when it's directed towards people that the mods personally dislike. There is no integrity left in the moderation on this site. Meanwhile knighty himself has shown more interest in how pretty the site looks than in keeping the community from tearing itself apart. It was nice while it lasted, but I recommend finding somewhere else to post fanfiction.

This place is toxic. Humanity is toxic. Read stories? Sure. Post stories? Not so sure anymore. Comment, even on stories? No. It's not worth it. Frankly, I'd recommend other people stop trying to socialize on this site too, because it's not going to get better.

When a Writing Event Encourages Bad Writing... · 1:26pm Jun 13th, 2021

...You get a lot of bad writing from otherwise good authors. A cardinal rule of storytelling is don't be preachy. But of course, the people drinking deepest from the preach-bottle don't understand why that rule exists, no matter how you explain, so the advice goes unheard.

So Apparently · 10:44pm May 14th, 2021

Apparently, wishing death on an entire people is fine, as long as you're a progressive. Bonus if you're using the same actual words that the Nazis are, but clarifying that you're not a Nazi apparently makes that line okay. So let's review: A picture of a Swastika is hate speech, but a blog entitled Death to Israel isn't. Someone trying to explain that the picture of a Swastika doesn't inherently mean support for genocide

The Bishop Problem · 1:39am Apr 29th, 2021

My most recent story (a few months ago at this point) received a fair bit of attention, and a fair bit of criticism. Although I maintain that some of that criticism is faulty, there were some that had merit, and a few in particular which stem from the same underlying issue, one that I've come to realize I'm also struggling with in other story attempts.

Satan Doesn't Exist · 11:01am Apr 19th, 2021

This isn't about the literal, religious Satan (although that also does not exist, and one of the arguments for why is related to the one laid out here, it is not the topic of this post). This is about metaphorical Satans. Fundamentally, the Satan of Christianity is the personification of, not just the concept of evil, but the concept of the oneness of evil; that is, the idea that all bad things stem from a singular source. This concept, stripped of religious terminology, reaches far
