The new chapter of FSS stands at about 4200 words right now. This one's been causing me more trouble than usual, trying to make it good and believable.

Clop is a funny thing. It's hard to write--or at least write well--unless I'm in the right mood for it, and that mood can't usually be induced. I know the direction I want the new chapter to go, and I know how it ends--hell, the ending is already written. It's getting there that's the real trick. Hopefully it'll all be worth it in the end.

The recent site update fucked up the formatting schemes I was using for chapter and section headers, so I'm going to have to go through the entire story and fix them. In the meantime, the story is best viewed against a light background. And to the site administrators, whatever happened to 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'? Turnabout Storm was affected even worse.

It was yesterday, actually, but deserves to be marked. My first solo ponies story has been both rewarding and frustrating, and there's probably another year to go on it. It's been a modest success by the standards of the Gentlemanverse, and it's been a slow trickle of new readers all the way, but I'm okay with that. The story of Five Stars needs to be told, and I'm just glad nobody else beat me to it.

I lost my desktop. And by 'lost', I mean I took a power surge that went right through my surge suppressor and fried everything. Power was apparently out for two hours on Saturday. I was out running errands, but when I came back... I found my clocks blinking and my system wouldn't turn on. Replaced the power supply, and all that happened was a momentary whirring sound from system fans and a couple lit LEDs on the motherboard.

I'm off to Las Pegasus Vegas and the World Series of Poker for a weeklong vacation, so wish me luck. Have no fear, I'm taking the next Five Star Service chapter along to work on during my plane ride and downtime from my poker play, perhaps poolside at the Mystique Mirage--yes, I took my inspiration for the Mystique from my favorite Vegas hotel.

But if you'd like something to read in the meantime... it's done!
