In this story a character (maybe a griffon, not sure) enters an area bordered by massive glaciers. There, he and his companions find a lost civilizaton, pony ghosts, and pony corpses with smiles carved into their faces and at the end (apparently) the arrival of Nightmare Moon. I just can't remember the title. Any help would be appreciated.

I was reading a fiction involving the arrival of several sunk WWII warships (U.S.S. Arizona included in the title). I thought I had it marked down, but I can't find it in my files and my searches haven't found it. Can anyone steer me () towards it? Thanks for any help.

It just recently struck me that in the episodes of the opening of the School of Friendship, one character seems out of place. Each of the foreign students are accompanied by the Leader or Noble of their species, except for Gallus, who is escorted by Grandpa Gruff. If the relationship between student and escort is maintained, then this would make Grandpa Gruff a descendant of Griffon royalty, if not of the Kingly family itself. I don't recall the title, but the first chapter had a pony (apparently studying forbidden magick) abandoning an alicorn filly she had created in the desert. I remember the description mentioned that it would be found by Changelings.
