Sometimes, when reading a story, something will happen that jogs me out of the immersion. Be it an egregious spelling error, a line break, a particularly dumb line of dialogue, or, in the case of the amazing story "like fine wine" by sleeplessbrony, a semi-flashback.

I just had a very interesting argument discussion on a story about when and where to use the [Dark] tag.
As far as I can tell, it actually has two usages, which are kind of... different.
First, circumstances in which the consequences are dire and the main characters are, by many means, screwed. This is more of a tonal thing, though. If it's a dark terrible atmosphere, it's a [dark] story. That's fine.

I notice it every time. It's like you're pulling me out of the story and going, "Look, see how smart I am?"
It has a flow to it, but it breaks the flow of the rest of the story to do it. It's like putting a rose bush amongst a patch of pumpkins. sure, the roses look nice, but it ruins the pumpkin aesthetic. It's especially bad when in the middle of a sentence.

So a few months ago I read this story. As implied by the blog title, it was in fact a sexual story, shock of all shocks. Within it,the second person Main character falls in love with Braeburn and I presume they have sex. I say presume because I had to stop reading it about halfway through.
[Side rant, people are making their first/second person original characters way too detailed for me. Don't tell me that I lived in Texas and went to college for writing. I didn't.]

Okay, I like me a twist in my fiucs as much as the next guy, but the "Anon is an alcoholic who isn't really hsppy with his life" twist is just annoying at this opoint. I want to read a crack fic where the H in HIE is an almighty creature, instead of just a guy. But now the only way to surpirise the audience is either to have him be amazing in life and happy about it, or have him be a regular guy who doesn't do anything amazing.

Fun fact: The WIP name was "Anon *in* Earth" to parallel the AIE acronym, but I felt it read kinda strange.
I wrote it in a few hours, after having the doc sit there for a pretty long time. It's not a great story, but it'll do.
