I finally realized one of the most important lessons of writing fiction, especially on sites like this. While it is important to look and ask for ways to improve, the most important thing is that I try to have fun doing it. I may write something that isn't good for whatever reason, but hey, there's an edit button for a reason. To sum up, I don't regret joining this site at all.

I'm confused as to what readers want to see and how to deliver my writing so that it is acceptable. The most recent story I posted on here was so embarrassingly awful that I threw it in hellfire after getting a dozen or so dislikes. Here is something that I really should have thought about more. When writing long stories with multiple chapters, it helps to actually outline it thoroughly on where to go, what challenges the characters will face, how they respond to the world around them, and so on. Guess that explains the big, red bar from my last, ill-fated attempt at a larger epic. I'm working on a larger story at the moment, and am actually planning things out instead of just thinking about the beginning and climax. More

Have you ever read a story, or simply gone back to reread a story, and after looking at how he or she handles their prose, dialogue, characters, and so on, you realize what makes them great and what you yourself can do to write better when looking at your works? That just happened to me.
