Prologue

One thousand years ago the world was completely unrecognizable from the one we know today. at that time in the place of our glorious empire there was a magical kingdom known as Equestria. Equestria was ruled by a two sisters, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, who were aided by a council of elders. For over three hundred and fifty years they ruled the land creating a time of peace and harmony, until one day a threat arose.

His name was King Sombra, an evil unicorn bent on the total domination of Equestria. King Sombra was considered one of the most powerful unicorns of all time, but even he knew he could not overcome the combined powers of Princess Celestia in a battle of force. However king Sombra knew there were many different ways to defeat ones enemies.

On a dark night in the land of Equestria Princess Celestia had received word that King Sombra’s forces had captured Princess Luna and brought her to the Crystal Empire. Throwing all caution to the wind Princess Celestia gathered her forces and raced to free her captured sister.

When she arrived the scene she’d come to was far worse than anything she could have imagined. Before her very own eyes she watched as King Sombra stole all of Princess Luna’s magic and took it for himself. In a fit of rage Princess Celestia lashed out against the demented king vaporizing him instantly along with most of his kingdom.

When the two sisters returned home it was not to a mournful kingdom but a land filled with indifference. The council had decided that since Luna could no longer do her sacred duty as princess of the night that she was thus unworthy of the title. The task of bringing forth the night sky once again fell onto the shoulders of the Moonflowers.

Even though Luna had lost her title as princess she still remained true to the spirit of what it meant to be a princess. With the aid of her sister Luna was able to become a knight of Equestria. In time Luna and her band of solder became known to the world over as the Shadowbolts.

Many years later in a dark time when one could hardly tell friend from foe Princess Celestia asked her sister to take up the title of the Lady Inquisitor and root out corruption that plagued Canterlot.

Though in in hindsight maybe that is where things started to take a turn for the worse, for as the saying goes power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. And it did corrupt her she used her power to strike out against the Moonflowers for robbing her of her rightful place. Before Princess Celestia could question her sister on her actions Luna had fled Canterlot with her Shadowbolts.

Ten years later Canterlot was attacked by an army of monsters known as changelings being lead now by Luna. Though she may have looked like Luna she had returned a dark reflection of her former self claiming to be reborn anew as Nightmare Moon. Using the power of the midnight chariot and her rainbow of darkness she covered the land in eternal night.

Even without the power of the sun to aid her Princess Celestia led the soldiers of Equestria against the changeling hoard. Though it would appear that even with the changelings superior numbers the royal guard were able to repel the threat of the changelings. With things quickly turning in Celestia’s favor Nightmare Moon fled the battle field running into the caves of Canterlot Mountain.

Princess Celestia believing that this may be her one chance to save her wayward sister gave chase
only to be ambushed by the Shadowbolts and Chrysalis. With their combined power they were able seal Princess Celestia into the Silent realm.

Though Princess Celestia was trapped within the Silent realm for twenty years the Moonflowers diligently protected Equestria in the princess’ absence. Without princess Celestia they feared that any mortal only who took the throne would abuse its power. The Moonflowers used all their power to transform the land from a monarchy into democracy that was named the New Lunar Republic.
Though some ponies did not approve of an all unicorn clan forcefully changing Equestria into a democracy. This lead to a brutal civil war between the republic, a group consisting mostly of unicorn mages, and the rebels, a group consisting mostly of earth pony alchemists, until Princess Celestia was freed from the silent realm.

When Princess Celestia was freed from the silent realm she ordered the end of the war, banning the practice of alchemy, and the capture of every Moonflower for treason. After the the Moonflower executions Princess Celestia declared that the New Lunar Republic would be reconstructed into the Solar Empire.

878355 That's fairly nice, but it's a lot of telling. Most everyone who sits down and reads anything knows that the only thing that tells instead of shows is a textbook. Give us a show, and people will like it.

(Sorry for such a long time before I responded, but while I did like it, it's just too much, y'know? And that's coming from the guy who can read a 20k chapter in a less than an hour.)

915161 Mmm, yes, alright. Well, I still stand by what I said: It's fairly boring to read, given that it's just being told to us like we should already know it. Show us these things, or have other examples of showing interspersed with this and then it should be easier on the eyes.

first of all, feedback is one word. Secondly, I couldn't justify as why Luna would find changelings, whose power easily tenfold of Luna's. If anything, they would manipulate Luna/NMM rather. Plus they had no common ground.

Iunno.if i'd read your story tbh... a little unbelievable.
