One of the world's tallest free-standing structures, as well as the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. It stands at 553.3 metres high (1,815.3 feet).

The primary reason for its construction? The city needed a really, really tall communications tower, in order to maintain consistent reception amidst the skyscrapers. It was also a way to show off the strength of Canadian industry at the time.

It looks cool. I like it.

Construction of the CN Tower began on February 6, 1973, and it was opened to the public on June 26, 1976.

So it's been around for over four decades now. It also has a restaurant housed in the main pod, and it completes a full rotation once every 72 minutes.

5922098 Wow. It amazes me what humanity can build sometimes. That's awesome.

And during the 70s, no less. It held the record of being the tallest free-standing structure in the world up until 2007, when it was surpassed by the Burj Khalifa megatall skyscraper.

5922101 Well I guess when people work together they can accomplish anything.

If humans were bastards, such wonders would be nigh-impossible to create, at least in a timely fashion. Assuming that they could be completed at all, that is. Or continue standing past construction.

To ponies, the CN Tower is literally just a giant freaking antenna tower, :rainbowlaugh:

This is the Burj Khalifa, by the way:

5922104 I guess they would think that. But it's proof that people can work together to make something great. You don't see a lot of that these days. Even if it looks like a giant antenna tower.

5922105 Holy shit. That thing is gigantic.

5922107
Quoted from Wikipedia:

It has a roof height of 828 m (2,717 ft), and with its antenna included, it stands a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft), making it the tallest building and the tallest structure in the world.

5922110 Wow incredible. I applaud the people who built it. But for now I must say goodbye. It's 2:38 a.m. were i live so I'm going to sleep.

5922079 yeah we humans might not be bastards, but we definitely trying to compensate for something:raritywink:

Canadian here, and I can confirm that the CN tower doubles as a giant space laser.

5923826 Really. What's it's purpose?

5923828 Destroying planets such as Alderaan.

...The CN Tower doesn't even remotely resemble a Death Star-like Superlaser weapon, :ajbemused:
