On September 21, 2001, Guy Atchley, the news anchor for ABC affiliate KGUN-TV9 in Tucson, wrote an article about how September 11, 2001 showed us how scared we were and how brave we can be as citizens of the United States of America. In commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the tragic attacks that took place on that fateful day, September 11, 2001, we hereby copy and paste the article here as proof of its continued relevance. Please note that Mr. Atchley didn't write this in all-caps even though it looks like it; KGUN simply used all-caps as its default typography back then. - Ed.

WHAT'S HAPPENED TO AMERICA SINCE THE TERRORIST ATTACKS?

WE'VE CHANGED. AS A NATION, AS A PEOPLE, WE'VE CHANGED. AND WE'VE DISCOVERED A FEW THINGS ABOUT OURSELVES: HOW DEEPLY WE CAN FEEL FOR EACH OTHER, OUR CAPACITY TO COME BACK FROM CATASTROPHE, HOW FORTUNATE WE ARE TO LIVE IN THIS PLACE CALLED THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

WE NOTICE THINGS THAT PERHAPS WE DIDN'T NOTICE BEFORE: THE OCCASIONAL PLANE OVERHEAD, THE FLAG, AND CHILDREN DRESSED IN RED, WHITE AND BLUE.

PEOPLE HAVE CALLED ASKING WHAT THEY CAN DO TO HELP. I THINK OF A QUOTE FROM BO LOZOFF WHO SAID:

FIND THE FORM OF SUFFERING THAT TOUCHES YOU THE MOST. FIND WHERE SOMEBODY ELSE CRIES, AND YOU TASTE THE SALT, AND THEN GO THERE.

WE SEE WOMEN MAKING TEDDY BEARS FOR THE CHILDREN WHO LOST THEIR PARENTS. WE SEE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE LINED UP TO DONATE THEIR BLOOD. AND WE REMEMBER THE FIREFIGHTERS IN NEW YORK WHO-- WHEN EVERYBODY ELSE WAS RUNNING OUT OF THE BUILDINGS--THEY WERE RUNNING IN.

THE IMAGES FROM NEW YORK, WASHINGTON, AND PENNSYLVANIA HAVE PROMPTED NORMALLY UNRUFFLED NETWORK ANCHORS TO BREAK DOWN AND WEEP. MANY OF US HAVE CRIED MANY TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK, BUT WE DO SO WITH THE GROWING REALIZATION THAT WE CAN BE GREATER THAN ANYTHING THAT CAN HAPPEN TO US.

THORNTON WILDER WROTE:

WITHOUT YOUR WOUNDS, WHERE WOULD YOUR POWER BE? THE VERY ANGELS THEMSELVES CANNOT PERSUADE THE WRETCHED AND BLUNDERING CHILDREN OF EARTH AS CAN ONE HUMAN BRING BROKEN IN THE WHEEL'S OF LIVING. IN LOVE'S SERVICE, ONLY THE WOUNDED SOLDIERS CAN SERVE.

WE REMEMBER THOSE FLEETING CELLPHONE CALLS FROM A DOOMED AIRLINER WHERE HEROES KNEW THEY HAD TO DO SOMETHING. BUT BEFORE ACTING, THEY TOOK TIME TO TELL THOSE WHO MATTERED MOST TO THEM-- I LOVE YOU.

ONE OF THE GREAT LESSONS I'VE LEARNED ABOUT OUR NATION CAME IN-- OF ALL PLACES--A WILDLIFE SANCTUARY IN GREEN VALLEY. SUE SIMPSON, WHO RUNS THE SANCTUARY, POINTED OUT THAT SHE HAS NO PROBLEMS HELPING VERY YOUNG EAGLES THAT HAVE BEEN INJURED. THEY REMAIN RELATIVELY CALM IN THEIR CAGES AS THEY HEAL AND REGAIN THEIR STRENGTH. BUT, SHE SAYS, AN ADULT EAGLE, WHEN PLACED IN A CAGE, WILL LITERALLY FLAP HIMSELF TO DEATH TRYING TO GET OUT. AND THE REASON IS SIMPLE: THE ADULT EAGLE HAS TASTED FREEDOM, AND FOR HIM ANYTHING LESS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

AS OUR NATION PREPARES FOR ACTION, WE DO SO NOT BECAUSE WE WANT TO GAIN ANYTHING. WE SIMPLY WANT TO PROTECT WHAT WE HAVE--OUR FREEDOM.

THE FREEDOM TO GO TO WORK WITHOUT FEAR.

THE FREEDOM TO SPEAK OUR MINDS.

THE FREEDOM TO HELP OTHERS.

THE FREEDOM TO SEE OUR CHILDREN LIVE IN A WORLD UNFETTERED BY HATE.

AFTER SEPTEMBER 11TH, WE ALL HAVE A MUCH GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF JUST HOW PRECIOUS THAT FREEDOM REALLY IS.

CAPSSSS LOCKKKKKK.

Note that it was the employer rather than the employee who used it at the time (example)

Fucking beautiful. That's all I can really say.

Yup, proves to everyone that I CAN post something meaningful on this group even if I didn't have to write it myself.

People are getting paranoid. The security grid is getting tighter in all the wrong places. What was it? This trend from America? Those preppers? Labeled domestic terrorists. And you know what is especially odd? In Germany politicians are TELLING people to prepare for the worst. I never thought our politicians would encourage us to turn into preppers. Might have to do something with the 'evil' Russians. Blablabla...

With being from last month, these videos are not so top notch new anymore, my apologies. :applejackunsure:

So yeah, A lot happened. From what I see, the American people are slowly getting on with their lives as the wounds are slowly healing, but the American Government aims for the wrong people. Fitting. Power hungry politicians and political puppets want to secure power first, everything else is of secondary priority. :rainbowwild:

5482269 Again, the original writer didn't use it. The station that EMPLOYED him used caps lock.

Yup, proves to everyone that I CAN post something meaningful on this group even if I didn't have to write it myself.

You never could post any thing meaningful because most of what you post is ether copied from articles or just videos with a couple short paragraphs tagged on, it's just lazy. Also the stuff you do write on your own is ether extremely bias and or intentionally misleading.

And next time you do copy paste an article use one that's from a credible new source particularly ones that doesn't use caps lock one their news article's, it's not really professional.:facehoof:

5482140 This is ridiculously blown out of proportion. The German government updated it's regulations and guidelines on how civilians should prepare for disasters in general. These were already decades old and needed renewing. They most definitely didn't say there was a disaster coming soon, it was all just read into by some people and publications.

5482398 Still could have changed it. Caps lock actually makes it harder to read, and writer programs usually have a feature that lets you change all-caps text into regular one with a few clicks.

Well, if you ask me, there's actually one thing I took to heart from the bible: Give them fish to eat and they will eat for set amount of time. Give them the skill to fish for themselves and they will never go hungry again.

I can only speak for myself, but it is never a bad idea to know how to do things if things really go south. If you know how to clean water to make it potable again, if you know how to make a fire without matches, if you, well, acquire a certain set of skills, you can gain some friends in the right situations. People will respect you then. And then you don't need so many stored goods anymore. If I know how to make water potable, I only need so many until I must make more. I don't need a warehouse to store everything.

Skills are the actual, REAL currency if bad things happen. Forget paper currency, forget bottle caps, forget poor and rich. If things really go bad, there is no poor and rich anymore. Only those with skills and those without. A carpenter has use or a smith. But what good is an accountant in a catastrophe? Then other fields of expertise grow in importance. How many people can claim that they know how to grow food in larger quantities? In times of crisis, farmer folk will always be of utmost importance despite anytime else no one gives a crap about them. Those gold digger women hanging on the lips of rich moneybags today? Guess who will run to those farmers, who can sustain them when all money is worth nothing anymore? Right...

Geeze, I write too much. :rainbowwild:

5484869 I agree with you. It's always important to know a few basic skills and so as not to be entirely helpless or dependent on other people when you get in a dire situation. It's not like those are so uncommon or unlikely.

(Geez, I write too little. :P )

5484708 I never heard of such software before. Where can I get it? More importantly, what's it called?

5485000 Microsoft Office, OpenOffice and Libreoffice all have it. Look in the "Format" menu.
