How do you create a new world from scratch?

I know that some writers on this site have created alternative universes of Equestria, but I want to do the same thing in one of my stories, but I’m not entirely sure how, I mean I am under the impression that I have created a world where musicians when they die on earth come to Equestria to live, so is that what people mean when they say create a world from scratch and an alternate universe?

I think it's either just alternative Equestrias or a place similar to Equestria but still taken in an AU of MLP.
I once saw a fanfic where ponies appear on earth after all known humans disappeared
There's a au where everything is cyberpunk, or one of those futuristic cities.
Meanwhile there's a WIP story of a Horizon Zero Dawn inspired fanfic, and the many landmarks that we know of gets a little different, such as under different names.
For example, in my Horizon Zero Dawn/MLP AU, this version of Canterlot is now called Sparkle's Edge, inspired by the first main area where the player, Aloy, spawns in when Aloy is an adult (I forgot the name XD). Magic is also useful in the au, with a few twists (Still WIP).
Another WIP AU, or two of them with the same characters yet similar and different storylines. One takes place 20 years after the original Fallout Equestria story, and another one takes place after season 7, where military bases were set up to protect Equestria, and this au contains mystery, conspiracies, action, adventure, and involves some mature topics as well. Plus a bit of a spoiler alert, after the end of the military au (Or I now named it, the Rainbow 01 AU), Opaline appears...
As for a world by scratch question, yeah it's a bit difficult to explain. Like I said at the top, either just Equestria being totally different, took place on another planet, or a whole new dimension.

So, most people, when they say they created a world from scratch, mostly mean that they took an existing world and modified it. Usually, it's a modified earth, or they'll take an existing planet and tailor life to fit that, or in the case of FiMFiction, it's modified Equestria.

To build it from scratch for realsies, I would start by making any concrete foundations, first, such as the name of the world, then its shape, and who lives there. Then start designing the physics to fit your purposes, then the laws of the universe. Then start inhabiting it and building it up from that sturdy foundation.

Keep in mind, there's nothing wrong with having a modified world. It's called an AU, and they're all over. To design one from scratch takes a lot of effort, though. More than most would put in. If you do, though, I would like to see a map. What is a world without a map?

There was a forum post here on the site, but not in this group, a few years ago, where someone tried to crowdsource a world, built from multiple peoples' ideas. I believe the first question they asked was what holidays this world would have, and I shut that question down right away, because you can't have holidays without having something that matters enough to the citizens to have a holiday for it. I mean, we did eventually answer that question, because someone else stepped in and started building the infrastructure, and I would continue to set up frameworks for them to keep going, and we did sort of create a world from scratch, of which I was named the trickster god that convinced everyone else to do the work for me (which I thought was a fun portrayal).

I wish I could remember where that was, but I do remember that we made a socialist agrarian society, and there was a monastic group of holy zombie unicorns on the east side of a river that had once invaded the capital. Good times.
