Once upon a starlit Midsummer's Eve, a comet flew into orbit around the planet Earth. But this was no ordinary comet. This comet had unfathomable power. Every 63 years, when the comet comes to pass, a wish is granted to all who see it. This comet came to be called Fortuna's Comet after the spirit of luck, Fortuna. One day, Fortuna's Comet crashed into planet Mars and broke into nine fragments, which scattered across the cosmos. From that point, wishes on planet Earth were not granted by the comet, but by nine heroes called the Starbournes, who ensured that no evil would befall their (relatively) peaceful solar system. This is not a collection of stories of their deeds, but rather it is a collection of tales from the Age of Illucidity, the time between the destruction of the comet and the rise of the heroes.
