Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Oceans and Baten Kaitos Origins are the only two games in the series, but they happen to be some of the most unique and innovative JRPGs of the sixth generation. From personal experience of my current playthrough of Origins, I can say that the game's battle system has a bit of a learning curve to it. The reason why is due to the fact that the battle system operates on a type of collectible card system, where you need to gather cards together and construct a Deck that will allow you to play through all of your power cards and combos at a consistent pace. Then, there's the combo system in the game. To summarize it, just imagine it to be the Marvel vs. Capcom of JRPGs, where you have a meter to unleash your supers and you can set up your weak attacks into your supers (which you can chain to higher-leveled supers), and you can continue your combo by relaying into another active party member whose combo was set up.

They both are really good games that each have their different merits and deserve to be played by those who are into JRPGs and wish to experience something different. And before you ask, they're both developed by the same studio behind Xenoblade Chronicles and published by Namco (though Origins was published by Nintendo).

So... Basically Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories battle style?:applejackunsure:

and you can't use higher card values to break your opponent's chains. You can stun them by downing them though. EWLO has more of a poker-style battle system though.
