Captain's Log Source

There's a new Star Trek series being developed by producer Alex Kurtzman. The new series is set to premiere in January 2017. This fast tracking development is a surprise but that's not the only twist. The series won't be headed to a television near you. Instead, the series will debut and run exclusively in the U.S. on CBS' All Access digital subscription service. The service is available for $5.99 a month and features thousands of shows from CBS' library along with the ability to stream the local network live.

Kurtzman will be the executive producer, working with CBS Television. 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the original series.

The series is separate from the movies through Paramount as CBS retains the TV rights.

No information has been released about the nature of the series, characters, actors or budget. It's also been stated that the series will be completely separate and unrelated to the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, set for a Summer 2016 theatrical release.
