The one actor who to this day is symbolic with Dracula and the Vampire in film, Hungarian born Bela Lugosi. Though legendary for his role of Dracula (a role he'd played hundreds of times on stage but only twice on film) the success of 1931's Dracula and the rise of rival Boris Karloff would in the end doom Lugosi's career. By the time of his death, the man who'd immortalized Count Dracula as the swave sophistocated nobleman we know, was nothing more then a sad broken old man who's once promising career had ended in failure and drug addiction
