In JRR Tolkien's Silmarillion (Haven't read it), Elvenkind calls us Humans, Children of the Sun.

Looks like humanity is a "Praise the sun" species and she needs to call us for help. Because we are her children, figuratively.

(Gonna nerd out for a bit) The reason why in LoTR we are the children of the sun is because we were created by the big-daddy god who also made the Elves. Both in his image but with differences. The thing that separates us in LoTR from everyone else is because humans (and hobbits who are implied to have evolved from humans) have a real sense of "Get it done" rather than Elves and Dorfs who are like "Eh, we'll get to it" and while they do get to it eventually humans will act in the now and with a sense of urgency. Which ultimately makes us better. SUCK ON THAT LEGOLAS!!!
