If any of you have ever been to Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C., hopefully this monument is instantly known.

This monument bears tribute to the unknown fallen of the U.S. Military, with an unknown from all modern wars (minus Vietnam, which was later identified), interred there.

Today, is the 85th anniversary of the world famous 24/7 watch that guards the tomb.
Just let that sink in for a moment. 85 years or 31025 days of UNINTERRUPTED vigil.

The first daylight guard was posted on March 25, 1926. At that time, the main tomb was little more than a slightly raised flat slab, which made a nice picnic area apparently for some people.

Since July 2, 1937, the unknowns have NEVER been alone. There has ALWAYS been a guard at the tomb round the clock.

Before April 6, 1948, members of the 3rd Cavalry, or 'Brave Rifles' have guarded the tomb. Now since that date, elite members of the 3rd Infantry, or 'Old Guard' have had the distinct honor of guarding the tomb.

Whether it be blazing sun, pouring rain, freezing snow, even in the face of hurricanes, the sentinels CONTINUE their watch.

Their devotion is TOTAL and UNCONDITIONAL.

COME. WHAT. MAY, may the unknowns keep resting in honored glory, under their eternal vigilance!
