So, I am currently writing a story about a special operations group in a humanized version of Equestria. So, where I am stumped is, should I have a few chapters describing the training that the main protagonist goes through, or should I do the One year later thing and go directly into the action part of the story? Also, any info on the Navy SEALs helps because it is based on that.

3796457 you offer up great points, and I therefore believe these chapters are extremely important to story and character development, as well as introducing new characters and further developing relationships. although trying to write about military training is hard when you haven't even been through it... although I do know a bit too much about it, rather it is setting the mood and describing how challenging it is.
