Hosstralia was the last continent settled by ponies prior to the discovery of the Unnamed Southern Continent.

Here, they encountered a world where placental mammals never quite got a good grip, and so Marsupials roamed.

After settling, Hosstralia was divided into various countries: Hosstralia, the Sheep Islands, and the Bird Islands. However, one place remained unexplored.

Southwest of the main continent lies a vast Peninsula, filled with a desert that rivals Zebrica's own Death Road. For many years, many attempted to cross the desert. None returned.

Those who shipwrecked on the shores had no choice but to cross the desert... and those that survived found a lush, fertile oasis at its center.

Oz

Oz consists of four regions, one in each of the cardinal directions. In addition to the four regions, the Emerald City lies in the center and is the social, political, military, and economic capital of the nation. Oz is unusual in that the majority of the population are earth ponies and unicorns. Goats, Sheep, Cows, Dragons, Griffins, and the occasional Lions and Elephants make up the rest, though there is a rumor of an indigenous race descended from stranded Harpies, as well as one other unique race of equines.

Regions

Gillkin County lies to the north and is sometimes referred to as simply Gillkin, it contains the City of Shiz where Shiz University is located. This is the most developed region of Oz and holds the most affluent populace and economic power.

Munchkinland, or the Free State of Munchkinland, lies to the east and is inhabited by the Munchkins, a race of (mostly) short earth ponies. The economy of Munchkinland is mostly agrarian and is known as the "breadbasket" of Oz. They are ruled by about a dozen hereditary Eminences, the most powerful of which are the Thropp family.

Quadling County lies to the south and is filled with swamps and very hostile territory to those who are not the native Quadlings. Many deposits of rubies lie underwater in Quadling county which has made it victim to exploitation by prospectors from other parts of Oz and has devastated the indigenous population. Qhoyre is the capital city of Quadling Country. The other major city is Ovvels. Despite the marshy geography, there is one dry road that connects the two cities.

The Quadlings speak the Qua'ati language and have a dark, ruddy complexion. They are typically thought of as inferior by the other races of Oz.

The Vinkus lies to the west. The geography of the Vinkus consists of a vast expanse of grasslands, separated from the rest of the country by the semi-impassible mountain range known as the Great Kells and accessible only at certain times of year through Kumbricia's Pass. The northern, southern, and western borders of The Vinkus are edged by desert. . The Vinkus is inhabited primarily by nomadic pastoralists such as the Scrow, Arjiki, and Yunamata tribes. Some groups, such as the Scrow and Yunamata are at odds with one another.

History

Much of the history of Oz is unknown, with records open to the public only going back about 300 years. What is well known is that some 240 years ago, Oz was thrown into political turmoil after the crown Princess went missing, and a mysterious "Wizard" fell from the sky in a hot air balloon.

It was also at this time that the last three children of the Eminent Thropps were born: Nessarose, Shell, and Elphaba.

Little else is recorded, though a campaign against non-pony races rose several years afterwards. Here, the name Elphaba shows up again, listing her as the head of a movement against the Wizard, with minor help from others.

The last time the name shows is as an enemy of the country, "the Wicked Witch of the West". Shortly after her unconfirmed murder by an unnamed assailant, the Wizard apparently left Oz, leaving a Mommet (living Scarecrow) to rule.

Oz has currently shut off all contact with the outside world.
