I once again feel the loving warmth that I felt when the first soulspark was born. I crawl over to her and cometo an eye level with the newborn. "Welcome to the world little spark. This is your creator and mother, Imperi. We are all very happy to have you in our family." With that I lean over and nuzzle Imperi's cheek with mine in this warm moment.

With Simuli joining, the five of you share your first group hug. It will be a long time until Imperi shall spark new lights into this world, and maybe that time will never come, but for now all is well in the world. There may be monsters outside but you'll face these together.

Eventually after a few clever applications of magic, the cot is as clean as it can be. Simuli decides to spend the rest of her life cycle on patrol and bring one soulspark to Ashlyn, while Imperi and you grow back to get some sleep. If anyone asks, Simuli will say that you guys snuck in through the window when Simuli left. A lot of snuggling happened, and your treasure and you drifted off to dream land.

The next morning finds Ireena healthy and well. After getting some breakfast for you, Imperi, and Simuli's latest incarnation, you find the girls in deep conversation with Ashlyn. The paladin was already impressed by us, as not only did we assist her but we even gave up the Symbol of Ravenkind to her instead of looting it like most "freelancers" would do, but this new "focus ring" has given her options she had never even dreamed off, and Simuli spend her night well to tell Ashlyn about some of the more creative combos she can perform with it.

As a small token of gratitude she gave Imperi some of her alchemical flare bolts, stakes, and sun flashes, to add to her repertoire. Also, she granted Imperi permission to keep the holy water chalice and focus, as she knows that Imperi will need these to make more blessed alchemical items. In turn, Imperi assured her that she will see about letting these be available to be shaped by the rings. Maybe she'll start carrying around holy water to bless her soulmelds? She'll look into it.

Now, it is up to you to plan our next course of action. It's morning, and there are at least five things to do.
1) Go and see this Madame Eva that apparently knows so much
2)Visit the castle and confront the lord about all this madness. Is he responsible?
3)Seek out the priest in the cemetery where this plague might be originating from--and perhaps Ashlyn's comrades, though they are probably long dead.
4)Try and learn as much of the local history from the ponies here. That might reveal insights into weaknesses or possible clues about the Sunsword or how to get the Symbol of Ravenkind to ward off vampires once more.
5)Perform divination rituals and examine the alchemical anti-undead equipment to "upload" it into Imperi's...whatever you call her network of soulmelds and familiars--her Soulshine?

While you are talking, Ireena strides over to you, filled with confidence. She insists on taking her responsibility as the Burgomaster's daughter and assist you in your quest with sword and advice. She will not sit back and let Strahd find her cowering in an inn, especially while her people are in danger.

((I know that as a player I would have tried to keep the relic heirloom instead giving it to an NPC that we may never see again after this. I bet I could make a great build around it. Alas, it was just too in character not to give it to the only one of us who can use it right now...though I do have a way of accessing it's power with the right soulmeld. I should look into this, as I heard that being able to Turn Undead--stopping, scaring, or even outright destroying them with divine authority--is very strong in this campaign.))

As we gather around a table to discuss our next move after an early breakfast in the morning.
"I am happy to hear that you are ready to take up arms Ireena. Your fellow villagers will be pleased to hear that their lady is fighting to protect them." When we are all ready I start to speak. "Ok, now that we have set up defenses and gotten Ireena her safe and sound it is time to discuses our next move." I say as I take a sip of juice.

"I think we should try and learn as much of the local history from the ponies here while Imperi performs her divination rituals and examines the alchemical anti-undead equipment. Though I will confess the thought of Ashlyn's comrades possibly still alive in the church does have my Dragon heart yearning to head to their rescue, plus we could find the priest and shut down the plague at its source...so what do you all think?"

Divine authority being used against undead, very useful indeed. I'm sure we will find a new way for that item.))

Smug to be off immediate use, Ireena sits down next to you. "Well I just happen to be a local and there are few here who could tell you more about the region and it's history. I could supply you with whatever knowledge you seek."

For her part, Imperi speaks up and rebukes the idea of divining now. "With the rings ready, and no need to adjust the soulshine, I could be ready to leave in 30 minutes." This is strange, because usually she would take only 15 minutes for a short meditation, unless she is planning something else. "With immediate goals in sight, the only useful ritual now would take more time to perform then just walking to either destination, and we got the firepower to take on a cemetery of villagers." She preens a little, happy that one of her inventions is finally paying off. "So we could rush to the church if we wish to, or pay a visit to this Madame Eva."

I give Imperi a smile. "I think we should go for the church first, then we will see about Madame Eve. Shall we give you the time prepare?" I ask her as I gently rub her hand with mine and in to give her a peck on the cheek and whisper, "I love you." I then turn to Ireena. "And while she does, can you tell us what you know?"

Ireena thinks about how to best summarize the local history. "Before Strahd and his family moved in, this was actually a bulwark of the holy forces. Our Knights of the Raven where a militaristic organization that combined martial strength with Sun granted secret knowledge. The raven was their holy symbol, and they knew much about the undead and how to destroy them." She waves outside, and rolls her eyes. "Apparently they were not that great because last I heard there are only a few of them left.

"Strahd used to be a famous warlord, and his family settled in here after assembling a minor kingdom about ten centuries ago. I don't know whether this is truth or just old wives' tales, but Strahd was madly in love with Tatyana von Zarovich, soon to be wife of Strahd’s brother Sergei. He poisoned his brother's wedding wine and planned to steal her heart when she was mourning." Here, her grip on her own mug tightens, and her voice grows furious for some reason, as if this story is personal to her despite her flippant attitude.

"She ran away from him and he pursued her to the edge of the castle's cliff where she fell to her death." She takes a drink from her mug. "I think that she jumped.

"Her body disappeared in the mists and was never found. Strahd, somehow still alive after all this time, has tightened his grip on the region ever since. The Raven's holy places are still around but I doubt they hinder him. Every once in a while ponies disappear, but none of us can leave this place. These accursed mists that surround this land keeps anypony from leaving without Strahd's permission." Here, she gestures to the brown and red ponies drinking and playing cards. "The Vistani are the only ones allowed to leave, apparently because they bring the lord news from the outside world. They are useful to us because they import hard to find goods, but see how quiet they are despite playing. I do not doubt that they are spying on us right now and report anything we say to him." Her rings starts glowing a hard blue. "Maybe we should have a talk with them."

Ashlyn for her part, leans in and whispers to the group. "The stench of Evil is upon them, but that is not enough evidence to condemn them. Greed and a lust for power might motivate them, though it is unlikely that they are under Strahd's Domination. Few vampires can dominate a mind for more then a few days."

I don't give the Vistani a glance from where I sit, I know that they are there and I could "feel" the evil on them. "I've heard plenty of stories of the Vampires when I was still a little foal. My caretaker Gaaki told me stories while she used to tug me." I say quietly. I don't turn my head but take a big sip from my drink, acting like nothing is up. My eyes, not my head, turn to Ashlyn. "There wouldn't happen to be an empty room in this place would there?" I ask, hoping that she's catch my drift of using the room to interrogate them, while others will think that that is where Imperi will start preparing her ritual. While she prepares somewhere else, we will get some info.

((Oopsie, I did not make it clear but Imperi did not dare wasting any sunlight time so she went off to prepare already. She figured that Simuli would fill her in later, especially since they share spirits.))

"Wait," intervenes Simuli and she addresses Ireena. "Didn't you say that Madame Eva is an old wise woman not in this village. She would not happen to be a Vistani would she?" Reluctantly Ireena has to admit that there might be some personal vendetta involved. "Then it might not be wise to antagonize them for now, no matter how much I would love to try out my naga form's special diet."

"Right..." I say slowly, taking note to keep an eye on Simuli for a while.
"Any who, I think we should prepare to get going. Somepony will need to stay behind to keep an eye on the place and make sure nopony tries to pull a fast on." I say as I finish my drink. We might have more ponies against us then we though...
