Usually, those in an intelligence-based organization do work according to rank, where new recruits do dirty, meaningless tasks, and higher-ups do more specialized missions in small groups. Such is not the case with the New Lunar Republic: Underground. Night Shade, the Director and founder, was known for his "immersion" methods with recruits. He almost always led groups of newbies personally into missions that other branches of the NLR military would reserve for specialists and black-ops personnel. This fateful morning, he and a group of recruits were on orders to investigate a recently built SE outpost near Stalliongrad and detain any individuals they found within for questioning.

Night Shade lifted his foreleg to check the time. He could barely see the analog display past the raging white that surrounded them, but he caught a glimpse eventually. They were on time. He activated his ear-mic to converse with the others. "Everyone still alive out here?"

Night Shade senses a small patrol trot around the perimeter of the outpost. When he was certain no one was observing them, he ran out to them and knocked them each at the base of the neck, rendering them unconscious. He then cast a teleportation spell on them, sending them to the complex's holding cells, where Lolk waited for them. "Go go go!"

Night Shade moved swiftly through the storm, taking out another two guards on his way inside. Just before reaching the entrance to the northernmost building, he felt a bullet whiz past him, just behind his flank. He crouched, taking cover in a large snowbank. The shot had come from the east, probably from a vantage point he had missed in the snow. He needed to take care of this sniper first, before any of the other operatives were hurt. "Make that 45. Sniper, east sector. I'm going in."

Night Shade is caught off guard by the force blast, and is hurled back into a snowbank. He rolls back onto his legs and activates the radio. "Everyone, take south building NOW! Lolk, I'm sending Striker back to you. Have him taken care of." Night Shade casts the same teleportation spell he used on the SE soldiers onto Striker, sending him to the compound. He pushed the top of the snowbank in front of him aside to reveal the south building's facade. He switched his pistol to 3-round burst, and carefully strafed his pistol as he fired it, lodging a round into 3 different soldiers' skulls.
