Swans (and maybe even Flipper) is actually the only band I've experienced so far where "noise" was used in a coherent enough fashion to not sound chaotic and meaningless, while at the same time keeping it well outside "conventional" music, thus creating something impossibly brutal.

This sounds disturbing. Like Steve Reich kind of disturbing. I don't know man. I like it, and the album Holy Money is pretty good so far. That extra ambient feel certainly borders on the claustrophobia and paranoia style.

Well what you referring too, I thought you meant. Either Load, Black Album or ...And Justice For All. Though the last one might be pushing it out of bounds, because the only sad songs are One and To Live Is To Die.

And I thought you meant Load because of their lyrical content. Its more somber than the likes of Master Of Puppets.
