It's hard to believe that back in March of 2013 we were only starting to gear up for the long hiatus between Season 3 and Season 4. Yes we had "Equestria Girls" coming out in June to tide us over but it was still long. Thankfully as we geared up for what was going to be a long hiatus the fandom once again rose to new heights with the creation of the first fanmade episodes. Something that to my knowledge no other fanbase has ever accomplished, yet. One of the fanmade episodes was one that had long been teased and promoted entitled "Double Rainboom", the other was one that flew under the radar and went by the name of "Snowdrop". Not surprisingly both episodes took the top two spots in the Top Ten Pony Videos of March 2013. And Silly Filly Studios and Jan Animations have since gone to start work on other fan animations that could be considered "Fan made episodes".

And now for my thoughts: Both of these episodes have their strengths and both of them have their weaknesses. "Double Rainboom" excells at references of all sorts as well as some humor, while "Snowdrop" excells at producing feels and making for quite the tear jerker. Both of them suffer from mic problems though that plauges "Double Rainboom" more then "Snowdrop". "Snowdrop" ultimately lacks clarification to confirm whether or not this ties into the show canon, while "Double Rainboom" relied a little too heavily on references and ended up making the second half a rather unexpected and probably unnecessary PPG crossover. In the end "Snowdrop" is better then "Double Rainboom", but both of these have some teething troubles that will need to be worked out for future fan made episodes.
