Either Varanus or Vargras (I have trouble keeping them separate) used the neologism 'Opliptera', which is basically 'hoofwing' in greek.

Me, I adapted that to 'Nicptera', which vaguely translates to 'Nightwing', which I actually will be using in my upcoming stories.
