2. Think about the idea some more.
3. Write story using the idea.

How do you travel a thousand miles? One step at a time.
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
How do you write a story? One word at a time.

As for practical matters: I recommend writing in either Gdocs or OpenOffice if you're on a budget. Be patient, and remember, your first attempt (or three) at anything is always just practice. Listen to feedback, but don't take it personally. Oh, and read all of this.
