So this is a little long so bare with me. I have had this idea for a fanfic series that I have been planning out for a couple of years actually. I haven't really wrote any of it down until now that places Equestria in the real world Eastern Europe to be precise Equestira shares a border with Russia, a small part of turkey. The fic itself will chronicle Celestia's and Luna's rise to power. Because I am essentialy recreating history it has to start off with a bit of introduction.

Around 330 BCE Alexander the Great stumbled upon the Pegasi off of the Equestrain Sea The Greeks end up founding a city called Pegasopolis. The greeks bring to the Pegasi part of their culture and this marks the first time ponies and humans meet. Centuries past and the Romans end up settling in Pegasoplis and annexing it into their empire. Now because this is the eastern part of Rome it does not fall like the rest. It becomes part of the Byzantine Empire and brings with it religion (Orthodox Christianity)

Now around 1093 the rest of Equestria was nothing more than squabbling tribes of earth ponies and unicorns. So an unnamed Pegasi (I cannot think of a name yet) decides to introduce their equine neighbors to religion. It ends up being successful and the first Kingdom of Equestria is formed. They establish ties to the Byzantines and their culture flourishes. The capital of Canterlot is built and with it the magnificent palace is built as a cathedral for all of Equestira's citizens things remain relatively peaceful until the 1200s. The fourth Crusade begennis and Constantinople is sacked by orders of the pope (thus beginning Equestira's unstable relationship with the catholic church) the Byzantine Empire although not completley destroyed is pretty much useless now. Facing pressure form invading Turks from the south and Mongols from the east the kingdom of Equestira, in the 1550s it is conquered by Ivan the Terrible and will remain under Russian rule until 1722

Enter Celestia's father a large unicorn haling form Canterlot who is an up and coming politician negotiates an deal with Peter the Great. They become a sovereign state in exchange for military aide, a large portion of Equestia's bountiful natural recourses and political ally. After months of negations Equestira peacefully secedes Celestia's father ascends and becomes the first alicorn in over 600 years. He issues a decree stating that all equine lands are under his rule. This pisses off the Ottoman Empire who has claims to parts of the pegasi lands and thus stars an on and off a series of armed conflicts that reaches its peak with the Crimean war. Jump to Tsar Nikolas II. Clestia’s father thinks he is a disgrace. He is aloof of the concerns of his people and after the reforms of his predecessors. It is like Russia has taken a huge leap backwards. His anger reaches an all time high when Russia drags Equestria into their war with Japan in 1904. Clestia's father mentions that if you want a revolution this is how you start one. In 1905 Lenin begins his revolution he is imprisoned and is force into exile in Switzerland. During this time Celestia's father and Lenin develop a secret relationship. In 1914 WWI begins and Equestria declares war and Germany. When the Lenin returns to Russia and begins their revolution Equestrian provides the Bolsheviks with money and guns. When the revolution evolves into full-blown civil war Equestria sends most of its troops to Russia to aide the Bolsheviks. The war ends and in 1925 Equestria along with the Crystal empire, and Saddle Arabia from the Union of Equine Socialist Republics.

The first part of the saga is Equestrian during World War II. It will follow two characters a crystal pony named Artyom Kadenski he is a devout Equestrian Orthodox. During this time in Equestria’s history the church is not oppressed unlike in the Soviet Union. a sniper who defends the main city of the Crystal Empire Crystalgrad during a 400-day siege during the beginning of the war.

The second story follows another sniper a Russian born unicorn named Dmitri defending Stalingrad. The two ponies meet up and take berlin Artyom is shot in the stomach while attempting to place the flag of the UESR over the Reichstag. Dmitri raises his friend’s flag in his place and ascends and becomes an Alicorn. With a little bit of magic and a lot of luck both ponies end up coming home heroes.

Third part is Celestia’s father as he leads the Equestrian army to glorious victory.

The war claims the lives of 15 million ponies.

The introduction of the second fanfic tells the origins of the cold war. The soviet atomic spy ring, the fall of dien bien phu and declining relations between Equestira and the United States. on August 30th 1949 when Equestria detonates their first atomic bomb. A carbon copy of the little boy code-named second lightning. Celstia’s father steps down as chairpony of the UESR because he fears that a third world war is inevitable and his wife becomes the new chairpony of the UESR

Second fic is the early stages of the Cold War. 1949-1958 Equestria goes through sweeping changes to make it more Marxist Leninist. The first thing she does is ban all forms of religion and attacks the church and completely bans magic. The church could possibly undermine her rule and magic was viewed as classist and thus was considered treason. Equestira which was lacking a secret police at the time stirkes a deal with Russia to reform the NKVD into an multi national organization and thus the KGB is born. Dimitri due to his heroism in WWII is recruited into the KGB as an assassin he rises through the ranks and tracks down a Nazi war criminal named Dr. König Sombra who was responsible for experimenting on unicorns in order to give humans the ability to use magic. Seeing as the newly formed Eastern Bloc could use this to keep ahead of the United States they offer him refuge in Equestria to continue his research.

Meanwhile in the far east the Korean war begins. Equestria provides guns and MiGs and even a few pilots to aid in the war.

In 1956 the Eastern Bloc is formed

Easter bloc invades Chzechsolvakia.

On October 4th, 1957 on the same day as the Sputnik launch Celestia is born.

Artyom gives birth to a colt that he names Sergei and Dmitri is named as his godfather.

Two years later in on July 20th 1959 the same year as Luna-1 and Luna-2 launches Luna is born.

Third fic is the 1960s and is the decade of assassinations and conspiracies

Cuban missile crisis almost brings the world to WWIII. Bay of pigs does not help.

The CIA attempts and similar operation in Equestira only it is more successful it is called operation Triple Crown. Celestia’s father is killed. But the invasion is squashed by the Soviet Union. Mother becomes incredibly paranoid and the government becomes even more repressive.

After their father dies all Equestrian radio stations are banned form playing anything associated with the capitalist west. Ironically this does not apply to soviet broadcasting until Khrushchev is removed from power in ’64.

In an attempt to exact revenge the KGB recruits a talented changling to assassinate JFK. Her preferred alias is Queen Chrysalis, she has also gone by the name of Jack Ruby, Lee Harvey Oswald, Sirhan Sirhan (guy who shot the other Kennedy), and John Hinckley Jr (guy who tried to shoot Reagan)

The real motives behind JFK assassination were to put LBJ in charge and force America into fully committing to the unwinnable conflict in Vietnam thus securing communist dominance in south East Asia.

During this time a young CIA agent is investigating the assassination and is the only one who thinks that the KGB is behind it. He is sent to South Vietnam to investigate a possible Equestrian/Soviet connection. Queen Chrysalid whipes out his entire SOG team but leaves him alive.

As Celestia grows up and very free spirited. She takes an interest into western media when she listens The Beatles I Want to Hold Your hand on a Soviet broadcast. She develops a fascination with rock and roll and western music in general as well western ways of thinking She constantly fights with her mother partly to get attention.

Luna on the other hand is very quiet and subdued. But follows Celestia in her childish misadventures.

On Luna’s 10th birthday the Americans land on the moon and Celstia’s mother gets really pissed.

The 70s tensions between the United States and the Eastern Bloc ease off. However as Celestia grows up she sees the government as a web of hypocrisy and lies. She is very vocal about her political opinions and becomes a very angsty teenager.

During this time to escape the drudgery of growing up in a Communist regime and a growing fascination with Timothy Leary Celestia starts taking drugs primarily weed and acid.

Luna shares very similar opinons with her sister but is not as vocal so Celestia’s mother begins to show Luna favoritism. This favoritism causes Celsetia to act out even more.

According to Equestrian tradition every citizen of the Equestrian Union must fulfill a military obligation, due to foreign powers invading the country (Napoleon, Hitler, The Mongol Empire, The Ottoman Empire ect.) before they turn 22. Luna goes the Moscow Military Academy when she turns 18.

Dimity becomes head of the KGB
On December, 24th 1979 Soviet Union and Equestira invades Afghanistan to help with their failing government.

Sergei who is now 19 years old joins up with the newly formed Alpha Group and participates in operation storm-333 and assassinates Afghanistan president Hafilzulah Amir.

Celestia flees to the United States to dodge the draft and to protest Equestria’s involvement in Afghanistan.

1980 Luna is stationed in East Germany and is assigned to a tank division.

Celestia is in America doing anything that might make her mother angry. She spends most of the time partying and doing a shit ton of drugs. In order to pay for these expenses she becomes an entrepreneur of the sorts. Rich wall street executives will pay her quite a bit of money for her company.

1983 Ronald Reagan almost starts WWIII during able archer 83.

All of the Eastern Bloc forces are placed on high alert and Equestria jumps the gun and Luna’s division finds her self 15 kilometers into West Germany before being ordered to pull back.

Luna gets promoted to captain and begins to experience a crisis of faith. She feels that she almost brought the world to an end.

On December 24th 1984 during a routine training exercise her tank breaks down in the middle of a blizzard. A nice German family invites her and her tank crew out of the cold. She converts to Lutheranism in secret.

Also in 1984, during this time Equestria’s economy starts to take a turn for the worse. Due to military overspending and a massive build up of nuclear arms. Equestria begins to experiences a shortage of food. The citizens of Equestria are becoming restless. There are rumblings in Equestira’s politburo about restricting the government like what the Soviet Union was doing. In the spring of 86’ she instates a series of purges similar to Stalin.

Celestia’s mother really starts cracking down on religious institutions and magic imprisoning thousands of ponies into labor camps.

The next year Luna’s division is transferred to Afgahnistan in an effort to try and win the war.

Throughout this time period Luna and Celestia are exchanging letters constantly in a method very similar to the actual show.

As the decade drags on political revolutions in Eastern Europe relations with Equestira and the soviet union begin to deterate. Her mother views Gorbechev as a western reformist.

In 1987 Luna who is now a major is reassigned back to East Germany this time she is stationed in East Berlin. in order to keep the peace in the country. She remains in Germany until the wall collapses and all soviet and Equestiran forces are forced to leave the country.

On her 28th birthday 1988 Luna attends Bruce Springsteen’s famous East Berlin Concert. While he is introducing the song The River she breaks down thinking of her sister.

1989 After the fall of the berlin wall Equestira declares matial law and Luna is put in command of the military district of Ponygrad.

In the United States Celestia’s debts catch up with her. She owes a lot of money to the Equestiran mob. They cut her a deal involving drug running.

1990 Celestia gets busted trying to smuggle cocaine for the Equestiran mob and is deported.

Luna takes in her sister to hide her form her mother and to help get her cleaned up.

Late 1990 Hardliners in the KGB are starting to plot to remove Gorbachev from power this prompts Dmitry to resign as head of the KGB and warns the Soviet premier about a possible uprising.

Clesetia is discusted at the hypocrisy of the Equestrian government. While ponies starve her mother and high ranking party officals dine on Champagne and caviar. She publicly stages a protest in Canterlot.

The military is called in to put down this rebellion Clestia is captured is thrown into the most notorious gulag nicknamed Tartatus.

Instead of simply executing Celestia her mother wants to make her suffer for betraying not only her family but also her country. She disowns her own daughter.

Luna takes all of the soldiers under her command and assault a radio station. She declares that the Equestrian government is no longer valid and that the Equestrian Civil War has begun.

Fic ends with the collapse of the Soviet Union Equestria lost their last ally worth a damn. (They still have Best Korea and Cuba but they can’t do much)

Fourth fic focusus on the Equestiran Civil war Celestia’s and Luna’s rise to power and the famous fight.

While in the gulag Dr. König Sombra and camp director Sasha Glimmer is given explicit instructions to be especially cruel to the Tsarina’s daughter.

9 months into her incarceration she is scheduled for execution.

Sergei returning form the Coup of Russia joins the Equestiran Rebels along with his godfather his unit of alpha group they stage a daring rescue of Luna’s beloved sister.

They are assigned to Celstia’s firing squad and rescue her. They end up orchestrating a gulag uprising. Celestia is able to escape to safety.

She ends up joining Sergei’s squad and while this is going on she develops her first emotional relationship with Dmitri. She ends up accidently gets pregnant with a colt

Meanwhile Luna stages a large campaign in Saddle Arabia because it is where Equestria mines a majority of its uranium and is where the country’s main oil reserves are held.

Dmitri provides a lot of intelligence work with the Equestrian rebels and sells KGB secrets to the CIA for funding.

A massive air raid occurs over the skies of Ponygrad the city is bombed and shelled to oblivion Celestia ends up giving birth in a makeshift hospital in a metro station.

Her colt is named Dmitri-Artyom II. Sergei is his named his godfather.
He ends up spending his early years at an orphanage in Volgograd, Russia to be picked up after the war ends.

Luna’s Arabian campaign is sucsessful with Euqestira’s nuclear capabilities in shambles the United States and friends agree to provide much needed air cover for the rebels

As the war enters its 9th year rebels begen to push north into the industeal sector of Equestira taking the cities of Mainsk and Staliongrad. All that is left is the capital.

Canterlot is now a fortress and is the last pro-government holdout. Takng the city from the front is near impossible and the anti air defences limit taking it from the sky.

Luna using KGB information notices a series of underground mines that are just large enough to fit a single squad. They move in behind enemy lines and nuteralize defenses then her tanks can move in and secure the city.

January 1st 2000 2:00am After neutralizing defenses Alpha group is tasked with taking the Equestrian Palace. All of the high level party officals have evacuated into an underground bunker deep in the Everfree forest exept for Celestia’s mother. While storming her quarters Demitri is shot in the face and dies almost immediately in front of Celestia. She shoots Celestia in her legs and is about to finally kill her own daughter until in a fit of rage Celestia stabs her with her bayonetted AK-74. Sergei takes his father’s flag from Demiti’s corpse and uses it try and bandage Celestia. He raises the flag above the palace signifying that Canterlot has been liberated Sergei becomes the first ever Crystal Alicorn. Using his newly given wings he is able to bring Celestia to a field hospital and saves her life.

On January 7th (Christmas day according to the Orthodox Church btw) 2000 the Ponies Red Army surrenders unconditionaly to Luna. Equestira is now free and the UESR collapses and the monarchy is reestablished. Luna and Celestia are officially princesses Now the country has to rebuild again.

Celestia ends up proposing to Sergei the day after she gets out of the newly formed army, Dmitri II needs a dad and Sergei is his godfather. She knows that eventually she will develop romantic feelings for each other so it is best to get it out of the way.
With Canterlot still in ruins they get married in the first cathedral in Pegasapolis.

Soon after she gives birth to Princess Cadenza.

Celestia is tormented by nightmares relating to her deceased lover. All of the pain she had endured and kept pushed down has finally started to manifest itself into PTSD. She decides to start self-medicating and hits the vodka. It starts out with a single drink before bed. But soon turns into half a bottle a night.

While this is all going on 9/11 happens, extremism is on the rise in the Middle East is on the rise, Equestria is teetering on another war in Afghanistan. and Luna is trying to track down escaped war criminals that have fled the country the two big ones being Sasha Glimmer who has changed her name to Starlight Glimmer and König Sombra.

König Sombra reveals himself and becomes self-proclaimed dictator in hopes of bringing about a fourth Reich. The military is called into action and the Cyrstal Wars begin. Sergei ends up going off to try and fight him. At this time Celestia’s son is now 18 years old and in order to escape conflict at home he goes off to serve his country. He serves in his mother and stepdads original unit and marries a unicorn form Pegasopolis named Katya she quickly becomes pregnant with a daughter named Sophia.

Celestia fails to attend any of her son’s important events and Luna urges her to seek help but she does not listen thus beginning the origins of the nightmare moon fights.

Celestia, who can no longer deal with the world and its problems ends up casts a spell that freezes Equestira in its own world similar to the one the Sombra uses in the Crystal empire. This begins her 1000 years of her raising the sun.

This makes Luna furious, not only does it go against her own religious views but also she views it as a violation of everything that they fought for.

Luna cannot take her sisters self-destructive behavior any more and leaves the country.

Thus ending the tragic tale of how Celestia rose to power.

Epilogue The reason why Celestia has Twilight Sparkle does what she does is not for her but for Celestia. She is a very flawed individual. She continues to struggle to improve her character. She reunites with her estranged family and things are looking brighter in her future.

Bear in mind these are just my notes I have only just begun writing the actual thing I am still in the inter-war years between WWI and WWII.
