Any tips for where to buy music these days? · 12:27am Aug 22nd, 2022
I've always purchased music from Amazon, although for a few I'll have to get a Bandcamp account (mostly for songs from a certain fandom you might be familar with).
However, Amazon has been getting increasingly un-subtle about the fact that they want you to stream music, rather than download something to actually own. First the MP3 cart was removed, now there's a pass-through to Amazon Music before you can find the actual store page.
The final straw is two-fold. If you're purchasing more than three songs, you are no longer allowed to download them directly. You instead have to find your purchases page in Amazon Music (I think it's a bug, since it seems to be treating all your purchases as re-downloads of the same "album" and starts concatenating the zip file). But also... they've dropped the quality to 256K, when I'm 90% sure it used to be 320K.
What other stores have a lot of downloadable music from most or all publishers? And are they trustworthy?
